We believe infrastructure creates opportunity for everyone. Whether it's improving your commute, keeping the lights on, providing access to clean water or transforming skylines, our work helps people and communities thrive.
Our clients trust us to bring together the best people, ideas, technical expertise and digital solutions to our work in transportation, buildings, water, the environment and new energy. We're one global team - 47,000 strong - driven by a common purpose to deliver a better world.
To support a growing backlog of work, AECOM is seeking a Senior-Level Ecologist for a senior practitioner and leadership role in our well-respected and successful Ecological Assessment and Restoration Services group. Requires demonstrated experience navigating the requirements of environmental permits and regulations (including wetland and other natural resource-related permitting), completing restoration planning integrated with engineering teams, and conducting monitoring and/or environmental regulatory compliance. In addition to technical expertise, the position may include managing projects, clients, and staff, as well as pursuing business development opportunities. This position will be based in AECOM's Portland office, with opportunities to work across our closely integrated offices throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
The responsibilities of this position generally include, but are not limited to:
- Provide technical oversight on projects requiring environmental permits and approvals from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Oregon Department of State Lands, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, Washington Department of Ecology, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and various county and municipal agencies.
- Utilize a background in wetland ecology or related science to inform the preparation and review of environmental permit applications and supporting documentation.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge on current environmental regulations and permitting strategies.
- Work closely with clients and internal staff to develop streamlined permitting strategies for a variety of project types, including finding solutions to permitting and schedule challenges.
- Provide technical expertise and oversight on natural resource projects involving restoration planning, vegetation monitoring, habitat management, and other related areas of expertise.
- Develop recommendations for mitigation measures, monitoring, and permitting specific to biological resources.
- Manage client relationships and serve as a project manager for a variety of natural resource planning and permitting projects.
- Conduct business development with new and existing clients.
- Supervise, instruct, mentor, and facilitate professional growth and development of natural resource professionals.
- Work closely with AECOM's other leads in both natural and cultural resources in the Pacific Northwest and throughout the company to promote AECOM's business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values.
