Senior Project Engineer

Job Description

Assist in the identification, development, and implementation of automated tools and software to maximize engineering efficiency and overall business workflow both internally and externally. Create new and/or improved patentable structural technologies in SidePlate's key markets.
Lead technical support and training of advancements in tools and software, to enhance SidePlate's Purpose Partners in areas of Engineering, Sales,& Marketing.
Responsible for supervising and providing advanced training for direct reports, conforming to critical business processes to improve upon technology and business workflow meanwhile maintaining alignment with SidePlate's purpose and core values.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Engineering Efficiency Developments (40%):

• Conduct brainstorm sessions to bring forth new developments.
• Assess the viability of new developments from a practical, and technical perspective
• Leads beta testing of new developments and/or variations of existing developments.
• Provide data for and assist in the scheduling, cost estimation, design, creation, and future supporting needs of new and existing developments.
• Identify and manage the engineering related development of software tools to enhance efficiency.

Business Development (5%):

• Conduct brainstorm sessions to bring forth new business developments.
• Manage the business operation software tools to enhance overall business workflow and efficiency.
• Assist with miscellaneous marketing or ad generation.

Engineering & Sales Support (20%):

• Provide technical assistance to the Engineering Department on project specific designs, RFl's, and unique details.
• Formally respond to questions from jurisdictional agencies during the permitting and construction phases of a project
• Oversee technical changes to engineering standard notes and details
• Provide technical sales presentations to engineering clients.
• Create and perform technical training sessions.

Executive (5%):

• Provide a timely written monthly executive summary of all development activities for inclusion in the company's monthly report to MiTek.
• Assist with the plan and presentation in the bi-monthly Development strategic meeting to make key strategic decisions on the focus and goals of the Development division and identify new and strategic Developments that will expand sales and increase market penetration.
• Provide data and assist with the estimating the Development budget for the following year.

Direct Reports/Training (20%):

• Manage Development Interns, Development engineers, and Senior Development engineers.
• Train Development Purpose Partners to build and analyze development tools and software.
• Train Development Purpose Partners to interpret the results and troubleshoot development tools and software.
• Supervising the projects and work load of direct reports.
• Perform annual Purpose Partner performance review of direct reports.

Education (5%):

• Research and refine developments of SidePlate's development tools, processes, as well as related fields of interest in the industry
• Research state-of-the-art technology in steel frame construction.
• Research building codes and jurisdicitional approval processes that are relevant to SidePlate's business.
• Keep up to date with knowledge in programming languages and frameworks (VBA for Excel & Access, Python, C, C++, C#, and Microsoft.Net framework)

Analyst (5%):

• Test and report the accuracy, behavior and results of all development tools
• Test and report the accuracy, behavior, and results of developments in other software platforms (i.e. RAM, ETABS, TEKLA, SDS2, etc.)

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil, Structural, or Archictectural Engineering, MS degree preferred. Excellent understanding of software and code. 6 or more years of experience in structural engineering, including experience similar to Sr. Development Engineer.
• Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, a purpose partner should knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office and proficient skills in Word, Excel, Access, as well as various structural engineering and fabrication software platforms, including (RAM, ETABS, SAP, TEKLA, & SDS2. Ability to write and develop software Visual Basic, Python, C, C++, C# and or other common programing languages.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Licensed as a professional Engineer in California- If the Purpose Partner is subject to license requirements or professional development hours as stipulated by a state agency now or in the future, compliance is required. Meets all requirements to maintain licensure in good standing (or the ability to acquire reciprocity within 2 calendar years following hire)
• Other Qualifications: Up to 20% of the total work time spent traveling, internally as required, too fabricator shops, conventions, and project sites as necessary.
