Summary:

The Senior Technical Program Manager leads the architecting, planning, execution, and delivery of technical projects within the constraints of the 'iron triangle' of budget, features, and schedule. This includes managing the efforts of internal team members, external partners, contractors/consultants, and customer IT teams, in order to deliver projects according to plan. This role includes responsibility for architecture, technical software development, scope, resourcing, setting deadlines, developing communication strategies, adequate testing, quality, and provision for maintenance of software products. Projects include a range of technologies implemented via firmware, windows and mobile applications, cloud systems, AI, and connectivity. Focus of this role is the design and delivery of Informatics products for Sonosite's Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) systems. Sonosite's products are designed on the basis of a strong understanding of the needs of medical users and the Senior Technical Program Manager is expected to be an enthusiastic participant in our customer research programs and have the ability to successfully engage with medical and IT users in hospital settings.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with customers to ensure products will meet the needs of patients, IT, Clinical, and Business 'users' in medical settings.
  • Lead development of architecture for the POCUS Informatics platform.
  • Manage the POCUS IT Roadmap
  • Ensure Sonosite's products reliably and securely connect to hospital networks and cloud systems.
  • Ensure projects stay on schedule and meet deadlines. Manage the schedule critical path and ensure steps are taken to keep projects on track.
  • Create software project budgets and ensure projects adhere to budget.
  • Drive consistent requirements, compliance, testing, and troubleshooting of software projects in all stages of development.
  • Manage software project change requests per established processes.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project deliverables.
  • Manage software release content with key stakeholders and other product managers.
  • Define development milestones including entry and exit criteria.
  • Manage schedule interdependencies with all project teams.
  • Define, manage, and mitigate project risks.
  • Present regular project status reports/updates to executive management.
  • Track schedules and resources for assigned projects.
  • Manage multiple enterprise level software projects through entire lifecycle.
  • Monitor and enhance software development, troubleshooting, and QA process.
  • Liaise between company, customer, and third parties.
  • Liaise between product management and software development teams.
  • Define the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Work with functional managers for allocation of staff to your team.
  • Determine and assess need for additional staff/consultants and make the appropriate recruitments.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise project team members, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Conduct project postmortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management
  • Keep abreast of technical and product development trends in the evolving medical informatics space.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • University degree in the field of business administration, computer science, information systems, or a combination of equivalent work experience and education.
  • 3-5 years of leading Software projects.
  • PMI Certification as PMP or PgMP is desired.
  • Significant experience with IEC 62304 for medical device software compliance is highly desired.
  • 3-5 years' experience in an Agile software project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution.
  • Network programming using UDP and TCP protocols.
  • DICOM C-Store, C-Echo, C-Get, C-Find.
  • HTTP/HTTPS protocols.
  • TLS.
  • 802.11 x WIFI protocols and their channel negotiations with the access point.
  • Strong familiarity with Agile project management software tools (e.g. Atlassian tools).
  • Ability to work directly with medical users to understand their work and use this to drive the development of new products.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management.
  • Competence with office software applications (e.g. MS Office 365, MS Project).
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
  • Flexible during times of change.

  • Ability to read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
  • Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
  • Overtime may be required in meet project deadlines.
  • Some travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients, stakeholders, or off-site personnel/management.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs with or without accommodations.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $130,000 - $165,000 depending on experience + annual bonus opportunity
