Job Description
Counterpart is a management liability insurance platform for the 21st century workplace. We offer products and services to help companies align the risks and incentives of creating great organizations. Our platform is designed to measure risk more efficiently using the most advanced rating system in the industry, while also proactively mitigating the risks of our insureds. As an early member of the team, you will be one of the primary owners and architects of our relationships with wholesale brokers, retail agents, and small businesses. You will drive a variety of strategic initiatives that will unlock new opportunities for growth and profitability. This will require close collaboration with the underwriting, data, and engineering teams, partners, clients, and other key stakeholders in order to scale the company.Â
YOU WILL
- Design and execute the launch plan for new insurance products in collaboration with the insurance, product, and data teams.
- Continuously iterate upon our application, rating manual, endorsements, and underwriting guidelines in close collaboration with our insurance team, claims team, engineering team, and our carrier partners.
- Enhance our underwriting guidelines and automated quoting systems by leveraging application information and proprietary data.
- Support our claims team with data infrastructure that enables us to get to better outcomes more efficiently.
- Package and present product improvement and expansion opportunities to external carrier partners for approval. Â
- Research, contract, implement, and manage partnerships with 3rd party data providers.
- Oversee a rigorous QA process that ensures that our products are intuitive and error free.
- Support in training the data entry team on new application and data collection workflows.Â
- Ensure legal and financial compliance with insurance licensing departments, carrier partners, and other government agencies.
YOU HAVE
- Expertise with Microsoft Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word).
- Ability to conduct sophisticated and creative analysis of complex data and translate the results into actionable insights and deliverables.
- Ability to strategize, implement, and manage complex projects in a fast paced environment.Â
- Impeccable organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience documenting and QAing processes.
- Strong interpersonal and team building skills, including the ability to work with a diverse team and drive change across functional and business boundaries.
- Confident presenting to key internal and external stakeholders.Â
- Experience working in a highly dynamic business environments.
- Desire to learn the mechanics and key drivers of business insurance.

- Tanner Hackett, CEO & Founder: Having founded two other major startups, including Button and Lazada, Tanner now spends his time focused on mental health through his philanthropy, Openminded.org, in addition to reading, surfing, yoga, and enjoying the outdoors.Â
- Chris Shafer, Special Projects: Chris is a published scientific author, having studied the neural correlates of gratitude at the lauded Brain and Creativity Institute. He has since helped to launch numerous businesses in which he held a variety of critical roles from product management to business operations to strategic partnerships. Chris received his bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern California.
- Mike Levins, Head of Insurance: Mike previously was the Head of Broker Relations and US MGA Operations at Hiscox. Mike oversaw the Midwest region with ~20 underwriters offering 13 different product lines, the primary lines being management liability, professional liability, and cyber/technology. His extensive insurance career has afforded Mike strong relationships across hundreds of retail and wholesale brokers. Mike received his BS from Marquette University and MBA from Benedictine University.
- Tobias Schuler, Head of Data Analytics: After becoming a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society & working as a consultant actuary at EY for several years, Tobias went on to drive the actuarial data & systems teams at QBE. He further leveraged his deep insurance & technical expertise at Munich Re Digital Partners in North America, where he headed data & analytics & oversaw the data infrastructure behind some of their largest programs.
- Derrick Franco, Lead Software Engineer: After teaching himself to code at 13, Derrick went on to co-found Jumpstart in addition to building out the technical divisions at InvestorsAlley and Phinaz Media Group. Nowadays Derrick spends his time reading, with his fiancée, and working on his podcast The Future of Work Project.
- Fernando Guayasamin, Lead Software Engineer: Fernando is a highly-skilled software engineer with over 18 years of lead experience in the field, with a broad background including platform engineering, data strategy, enterprise systems, mobile application development and embedded software development.
