Sr. Software Engineer, Container Platform

About the Role

The Container Platform team's mission is to build the next generation of Uber's container orchestration platform on Kubernetes that is secure, reliable, scalable, and highly efficient. At Uber we have a complex infrastructure spanning both on-prem data centers and cloud. It supports a diverse variety of workloads (stateless, batch, streaming), each different in its characteristics and requirements.

We build solutions to enable user applications/jobs to be deployed anywhere in the world with the touch of a button. We build abstractions so that Uber developers do not have to care about infrastructure and infrastructure just works for every application type. We actively work with the open-source community including Kubernetes and contribute back. We are at the cutting edge of technology and the team regularly presents at industry conferences.

We are looking for a strong technical leader to define and deliver on goals and technical direction of various critical projects and initiatives of our Container Platform.

What you'll do

1. Leads high quality design and artifacts to define and drive improvements to product and engineering quality; lead projects across all lifecycle stages from ideation, design, project planning to execution.
2. Write maintainable and extensible code with high quality tests and documentation
3. Productionize solutions across the fleet by enabling observability for close monitoring and evolving the solution based on production experience.
4. Drive collaboration across multiple teams for successful delivery of goals.
5. Mentor junior engineers in the team to grow in leadership abilities
6. Represent the team in internal and external forums

Basic Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
2. Experience programming in multiple languages such as Go, Java, Python, C/C++
3. 3+ years of experience in low-level systems, distributed systems, or similar technologies

Preferred Qualifications

1. Background in large-scale backend infrastructure
2. Working experience in cluster management solutions such as Kubernetes or Mesos
3. Understanding of container technologies such as docker or containerd
4. Knowledge of operating systems and Linux kernel
