Staff AI Engineer

Role Description: 

As an AI Engineer at Defense Unicorns, you will be responsible for designing, building, and testing AI software to process large datasets for national security missions. You will work with Python and other modern programming languages to develop AI capabilities, analyze statistics and algorithms for projection accuracy, and make strategic recommendations for AI products based on analysis aligned with company goals. Collaboration with a team of machine learning and data engineers is crucial for seamless AI development and integration. Staying current with AI trends and regulations is also essential. Additionally, you will collect progress data, organize and present it to team leadership and stakeholders, design system solutions, develop custom applications, and modify existing applications to meet evolving business needs.

Responsibilities: 

• Model, build, and test AI software for large dataset processing.
• Use modern programming languages, such as Python, to enhance AI capabilities.
• Analyze statistics, data, and algorithms for projection accuracy.
• Lead projects from inception to production rollout, ensuring a seamless and safe delivery process.
• Make strategic AI product recommendations based on analysis aligned with company goals.
• Collaborate with machine learning and data engineers for seamless AI development and integration.
• Stay current with AI trends and regulations.
• Collect, organize, and present progress data to team leadership and stakeholders.
• Design system solutions, develop custom applications, and modify existing applications to meet evolving business needs.
• Handle coding, debugging, and documentation, working closely with the SRE team.
• Provide post-implementation and ongoing production support.
• Translate user needs into system architecture.
• Assess and validate application performance and integration of component systems.
• Implement resilient software engineering and automation tools.
• Identify innovative ideas and build proof-of-concepts to meet customer needs.
• Work with development teams, testing and quality, and production support to meet implementation dates and ensure smooth transitions.

Travel Expectations/Requirements: 15%-25%

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

• Deep understanding of data science, linear algebra, algorithms, and statistics.
• In-depth knowledge of modern programming languages such as Python, Go, C++, Rust, etc.
• Willingness to learn and develop knowledge in an up-and-coming field.
• Excellent problem-solving skills in a demanding, fast-paced work environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• 5+ years of experience as an AI engineer or similar role.
• 4+ years of experience in applying Statistics with end-to-end ML engineering.
• Hands-on experience with complex SQL (Hive/PySpark-dataframes).
• Good understanding of various AI/ML models including Classification, Clustering, Regression.
• Expertise in data structures, data modeling, and software architecture.
• Expertise in Hadoop and Spark Architecture.
• Experience in UNIX shell scripting.
• Experience developing containerized software and Kubernetes.
• Ability to design and develop optimized Data pipelines for batch and real-time data processing.
• Experience in analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation of system applications.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and document technical and functional specifications.
