Position Introduction/Key Duties

Cimarron is seeking mid-level and senior-level Structural Engineers to support a global engineering, construction, and project management customer in Richland, WA. This position is supporting work at the Hanford Vit Plant, a waste treatment and immobilization plant. This is a great opportunity to support a one-of-a-kind facility that is turning radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and the Cold War into a safer form for disposal. This program is critical to protect the communities and wildlife along the shorelines throughout the Northwest. Come join the team to support this important endeavor! This is an onsite position.

Richland, WA sits at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake, and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges. This area provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, and the amenities of large cities (such as Seattle and Portland) nearby.

This position is expected to last for at least 1 year and has the possibility to be extended. This is a full-time/benefitted job with Cimarron that offers 1.5 times pay for overtime.

Key Duties:

• Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
• Review and coordinate technical documents with/from other designers, engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.
• Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues.
• Participate in technical meetings and perform intra-discipline coordination.

Additional Responsibilities for Senior-level:

• Manage assigned project activities.
• Assist in constructability reviews.
• Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports.
• Act as a mentor or coach for subordinate engineers and designers.
• Schedule and coordinate off-project review requirements for engineering deliverables.
• Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with clients, suppliers, construction, etc.

Required/Desired Skills, Experience, and Education

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

• Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible for consideration at this time.
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
• Work experience for Bachelor's degree should be directly related to the detailed design of steel and concrete structures.
• Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both in writing and verbally.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to obtain EIT within 12 months of hire.
• Bachelor of Science in Structural or Civil Engineering and 1 or more years of related experience, or High School diploma or equivalent 7 or more years of related experience.

Additional Requirements for Senior-level:

• Prior experience working in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
• Passed the Engineer in Training (EIT) exam.
• Ability to independently execute the detailed design of complex steel and/or concrete structures.
• Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, and ASCE 7.
• Proficient in the use of structural analysis software, such as GTSTRUDL or SAP 2000.
• Experience with CADD applications, such as MicroStation or AutoCAD.
• Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions, and construction methods for concrete and steel structures.
• Understanding of work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.
• Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
• Excellent listening abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Excellent planning and organization skills.
• Bachelor of Science in Structural or Civil Engineering and 6 or more years of related experience

Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:

• Proficient in the use of structural analysis software, such as GTSTRUDL, STAAD, or SAP2000.
• Proficient in the use of MathCAD or similar software.
• Knowledgeable of the provisions of ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 4, ASCE 7, and IBC codes.
• Experience with CADD applications, such as MicroStation or AutoCAD.
• Experience with basic engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions.
• Experience with methods of construction for concrete and steel structures.

Additional Desired Skills for Senior-level:

• Proficient in the use of MathCAD or similar software.
• Thorough knowledge of the provisions of ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 4-98, ASCE 7, and IBC codes.
• Familiar with Bechtel standard programs, such as ME-035 and Base Plate II.
• Experience in the structural design of Nuclear and/or DoE facilities.
• Experience with managing discipline software life cycle documentation.
• Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence.
• Experience in resolving field problems associated with FCNs, FCRs, NCRs, CDRs, and/or SDDRs.
• Professional Engineer License.
