OUR MISSION

We are an early stage startup on a mission to make science more intuitive. If you’ve ever worked in research, you know how hard it is to generate scientific insights and develop reproducible workflows. From manual literature searches to analyzing complex datasets - it takes a lot of grit and a fair amount of luck. Our team is developing digital tools to transform the research process for scientists and engineers in life science R&D organizations. We’re beginning by reimagining how a scientist ingests, synthesizes, and processes scientific literature. We want to catalyze a future where a researcher can ask domain-specific questions, generate meaningful insights, and quickly design experiments to test hypotheses. Perhaps most importantly, we’re dedicated to building something that scientists can trust.

WHAT YOU’LL DO IN THIS ROLE

We are looking for a founding Chief Technology Officer (CTO) who believes in our mission and will play a foundational role in shaping our AI-driven product. You will define and own our technological vision and roadmap:

• Leading the design and implementation of NLP algorithms tailored for the needs of life scientists.
• Architecting and developing scalable machine learning solutions to support a multi-product ML platform.
• Integrating with third-party apps and open-source models/code to offer diverse capabilities.
• Continuously staying up-to-date on advancements in NLP research and disruptive technologies, integrating them into our platform when suitable.
• Lead the creation and maintenance of diverse and high-quality datasets.
• Developing cross-functional teams to build and fine-tune our core data infrastructure.
• Campaigner for product development and strategy — willing to provide insight and input when presented with multiple possible roadmaps or ideas

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

This role demands a thorough expertise in building scalable AI systems, but more critically, enthusiasm for rapid adaptation and learning. Tech Skills

• Proven experience building and fine-tuning NLP platforms; NLP research background is a significant advantage.
• Several years of hands-on experience in applied ML, preferably within startup or agile environments.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and familiarity with leading deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or Pytorch.
• Exposure to and knowledge of the latest advancements in NLP research.
• Experience in computer vision or with multimodal large language models is a plus.
• Demonstrated exposure to software engineering best practices, MLOps, and experience deploying models at scale.

Experience

• Prior work experience in the tech industry.
• Preferably some familiarity with the life sciences/biotech sector, but not necessary.

• An innate sense of wonder and an intrinsic desire to create things, tempered by humility and authenticity.
• Ability to contribute strategically coupled with a desire to get your hands dirty by delivering high-quality, user-centric products.
• Independent self-starter, capable of leading initiatives with a sense of urgency.
