Enviva is seeking a Vessel Operator to support our Port Operations.

Essential Job Functions:

Vessel

  • Knowledge of mooring lines for vessels
  • Knowledge of HMI operations during vessel operations (quality control while keeping load rate up)
  • Ability to receive and interpret the data given by samplers while vessel loading
    • Understand and make decisions on loading based on Fulfillment plan and customer expectations
  • Safely operate heavy equipment– loaders, man-lift, ship loader and ships gear (crane)
    • Ability to run FEL efficiently to keep up with demand from vessel or barge
    • Inside dome and at outside stockpile
    • Be able to use multiple different attachments on mobile equipment (Forks, rock bucket, pellet bucket, Sweeper attachment, and bail grab, fork extender)
    • Knowledge of Mob Equip maintenance and minor repairs
  • Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms and lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions and damage. 
  • Lubricate crane parts in adherence with manufacturer and company recommendations.
  • Move levers (with both hands), depress foot petals (with both feet) and turn dials to operate crane, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving and placing loads. 
  • Knowledge of rigging and crane signals
  • Knowledge of vessel loading operations
    • Understand theory of loading evenly across entire hold, stowing product under comings to maximize product stowage
    • Ability to safely load product with dozer working inside of same hold
  • Ability to train employees in all aspects once certified
  • Working knowledge of Fire system
    • Knowledge of system and location of signals
    • Knowledge of minor repair
  • Ability to read and interpret the Dust collector differential readings to maintain compliance with permit
  • Clear communication with contractors and vessel crews
  • Ability to identify tramp risk and ways to mitigate them
  • Clear and respectful radio communication with team and contractors

Receiving

  • Receive pellets into the port, record data to ensure accurate paperwork
  • Working knowledge of truck scales and basic troubleshooting
    • Ensure safety of scale area and that loads meet safety criteria
  • Regularly maintain port housekeeping needs
  • Escalate issues based off reactions plans
  • Able to read and interpret the Dust collector differential readings to maintain compliance with permits

Quality

  • Working knowledge of collecting samples and test finished goods delivered by truck and/or rail
  • Maintain QA/QC records and follow Quality Standard Operating Procedures
  • Analyze equipment performance and make necessary adjustments and equipment changes to produce desired throughput and quality results

Maintenance

  • Able to identify electrical/ mechanical issues during system inspections
  • Working knowledge of conveyor belt tracking issues and mitigation
  • Ability to assist with changing a roller frame assembly
  • Assist with ship loader spout cable change
  • Assist with spout change and miscellaneous repairs
  • Assist with conveyor drive system maintenance and repairs
  • Gearbox oil sampling
  • Mobile equipment inspections and PM requirements
  • Assist in dust collector filter change
  • Port Wide system and mobile equipment preventative maintenance
  • Assist in Ship Loader repairs
    • Gantry system
    • Shuttle system
    • Spout system
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical maintenance and repairs
  • Working knowledge of minor hot work
    • Oxygen/acetylene torch setup and use
    • Welding setup and use
      • Stick
      • Mig
    • Working knowledge of performing fire watch


Housekeeping

  • Working knowledge of Durovac operations
  • Be able to identify high risk location
  • Keep area clean of accumulated dust
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures

General

  • Complete safety certification as required for the position (PJRA, LOTO, Man-lift, elevated work, Front end loader, lull, dozer, Crane, Fire watch, and Hot work certifications)
  • Complete man overboard training, shifting vessels requirements
  • Be able to identify issues on mobile equipment by completed pre use check sheet
  • Complete blow/wash down check sheet and brother’s keeper on all mobile equipment
  • Ability to follow all procedures without direction
  • Enter maintenance work requests as applicable
  • Escalate issues promptly for proper resolution
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks to ensure proper port operations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work multiple shift schedules and rotating shifts as required, understand maritime requirements
  • Ability to have flexible schedule
  • Ability to work on holidays
  • Ability to work at heights of 180’ (100’ over water)
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures (cold and heat)
  • High school diploma or able to complete GED requirements with six months of hire
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job instructions
  • Proficient in mathematics and measurement
  • Team player demonstrated with past work experience or activities
  • Understands safety starts with each employee

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled in use of Microsoft office
  • Technical school training
  • At least 1 year experience in operating earth-moving or other heavy equipment. 
  • 12 months experience in operating material moving, loading, or unloading equipment.
  • At least 1 year of experience inspection material moving equipment. 
  • At least 1 year of experience in crane operation in construction, manufacturing, or repair setting. 
  • At least 1 year of experience performing safety inspections in manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Skilled in crane operations or comparable heavy machinery operations experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift items above shoulders occasionally. 
  • Ability to push, pull and lift items up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to shovel spills.
  • Ability to wash specific areas to maintain facility appearance.
  • Highly trained to work from ladders, man-lifts and tools to install maintain equipment and fixtures.

Work Environment

  • Occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. Walk on high service up to
  • Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
