Job Description
We are seeking a Sr. System Performance Engineer to be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and reliability of complex systems. They work closely with software developers, infrastructure, and operations teams to identify and address potential issues that could impact the reliability of a system.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
Identifying, analyzing, and prioritizing potential (and any existing) problems and issues that could impact the operation of a system.
Conducting root cause analysis to identify the underlying causes of problems.
Developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions to improve the reliability of the system.
Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), implementing resilience and fault-tolerance techniques.
Developing and maintaining system and component-level reliability models. This can include conducting reliability testing, analyzing system logs and metrics, and identifying trends and patterns that could impact reliability.
Collaborating with software developers and infrastructure operations teams to implement best practice architectures to improve system reliability
Participating in capacity planning and performance optimization activities. This can include conducting performance simulations, analyzing system utilization data, and making recommendations for improving capacity and performance.
Providing regular reports and updates to stakeholders on the reliability of the system, including identifying potential issues and providing recommendations for improvement.
To be successful in this role you should have a strong understanding of software development and operations, as well as experience with a variety of tools and technologies used in infrastructure engineering. You should also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to work well in a team environment.
Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent experience (7-10 years) in technology, development, infrastructure
- 2+ years of experience with AWS/Azure (EC2, S3, AMI, EBS, IAM, VPC)
- 5+ years of experience with VMware based virtualization
- Comfortable in several scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Ruby, Go, etc).
- Experience with CI/CD tools and techniques (Jenkins)
- Experience with Observability / Monitoring tooling - Datadog, Splunk, ELK
- The ability to cooperate in a team environment is critical
- An ability to think 'outside of the box' with a long-term view, when recommending solutions.
- Organizational skills are required to ensure compliance with corporate standards.
- Supports recovery efforts in the event of systems failure or disaster.
- Candidates must have the ability to motivate and lead others in a positive manner and ensure the group's work gets done in a timely fashion.
- Strong research initiative, a self-starter at locating relevant documentation, support and process assistance
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact and communicate with a variety of individuals at all levels is required.
- The ability to influence others in a politically correct manner, so that objectives are met, is required.
- Must possess a solid understanding of software and/or hardware systems used in assigned area
