Our Environmental Services group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. We provide integrated, multidisciplinary services to identify and assess liabilities and risks, and to develop solutions to site management, remediation, and mitigation. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in botany, ecology, fisheries biology, forestry, GIS, habitat and ecosystem restoration, environmental monitoring and risk assessment, hydrogeology, hydrology, information management, permitting and compliance, soil science, state and federal permitting, regulatory negotiation, storm water permitting and planning, wetland science, and wildlife biology.

Your Opportunity

Stantec seeks an experienced wetland scientist to join our Environmental Services team. Stantec has a small company feel that provides local services yet has offices worldwide and thus provides the opportunity for travel and expanding personal horizons. Successful wetland field scientists at Stantec have opportunities for professional development, are often tasked with learning new skills (i.e. wildlife and fisheries), and work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects. In addition to a competitive salary, lodging, mileage, and a daily stipend are provided when working on field assignments.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting and/or leading both large- and small-scale:

    • Wetland Delineations
    • Natural Community Mapping
    • Vernal pool assessments
    • Rare, threatened, and endangered species surveys
    • Environmental permitting
    • Post construction monitoring
    • Wetland mitigation/restoration
  • Travel throughout New England and possibly further for extended periods of time
  • Participate in other tasks required for fieldwork such as workflow planning, scheduling, data collection and dissemination, reporting, permitting support, and communication with project management, clients, and regulators
  • Work efficiently and safely alone or with field teams of 4 or more
  • Maintain a high level of positivity, particularly in challenging environments and harsh conditions

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience (consulting preferred) independently delineating wetlands according to the Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and the Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Northcentral and Northeast Region (Version 2.0)
  • Experience delineating wetlands and an understanding of the applicable wetland related regulations and delineation protocols in New England
  • Associated permitting experience is preferred
  • Construction monitoring experience and familiarity with contractor communication and safe work practices around heavy equipment
  • Mechanical skills, experience driving/navigating in remote locations, and previous experience with GPS and mobile technologies
  • Strong communication and leadership skillsets, excellent ethics, attitude, and morale, and high physical and mental stamina.
  • Willing and able to spend long days on foot over uneven, remote terrain in inclement weather

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in an environmental discipline and knowledge of soils, vegetation, and hydrology

Minimum 5 years' work experience; or an equivalent combination of education (e.g. advanced degree) and experience.

New Hampshire Certified Wetland Scientist and experience with permitting projects in New Hampshire is also highly desirable and will be reflected in role compensation.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
