Navigating the Ever-Changing Landscape of Recruitment

In today's fast-paced job market, understanding the latest recruitment trends is crucial for a successful job search. The 2020 Recruiter Nation report by Jobvite provides valuable insights into the adjustments recruiters have made during the pandemic.

The survey, which polled 802 recruiters in the United States, reveals that recruiting priorities have shifted significantly, with 79% of staffing agency recruiters and 67% of in-house recruiters adapting to new challenges. Looking ahead, recruiters' top priorities for the next 12 months include social media marketing, employer branding, and candidate experience.

Recruiters are investing more time and resources in social media, recognizing its importance in promoting their company and job opportunities. In fact, more than half of the surveyed recruiters believe recruitment marketing is crucial in an increasingly digital world.

When it comes to sourcing high-quality candidates, recruiters rely on a range of social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. However, they are also leveraging newer platforms like TikTok, particularly in the technology and IT-hardware industries.

To make a strong impression, job seekers should avoid common turn-offs, such as spelling and grammar mistakes, and instead focus on showcasing their skills and experience. Employee referral programs are also an effective way to get noticed, with most companies promoting these opportunities through newsletters, email, and social media.

When crafting a resume, it's essential to understand which sections recruiters focus on, such as relevant work experience and online education certificates. Cover letters are also making a comeback, with 27% of recruiters prioritizing them in screening decisions.

The pandemic has also led to an increase in side jobs, with 48% of recruiters reporting that employees are taking on additional work outside of their regular 9-5 jobs. Recruiters are adapting to this trend by using text messages to reach out to potential candidates and communicate with applicants.

In-person interviews have given way to virtual meetings, and recruiters are looking for candidates who can navigate these new formats with ease. To succeed, job seekers should avoid common mistakes, such as poor communication and lack of preparation.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, there is good news for job seekers. The majority of respondents in the Job Seeker Nation Report are comfortable negotiating salaries, and companies are making progress on diversity and inclusion initiatives.

By understanding these 2020 recruiting trends, job seekers can gain a competitive edge in the job market. Remember to stay adaptable, focus on building a strong online presence, and be open to new opportunities and challenges.
