The Shift in Power: What Job Seekers Expect from Employers

In today's job market, the tables have turned, and candidates are calling the shots. Employers are no longer in control, and job seekers are dictating the terms of the recruitment process. But what exactly do they want from companies before, during, and after hiring?

A recent survey of over 2,200 employees and employers by CareerBuilder and SilkRoad sheds light on the expectations of job seekers. The results are eye-opening, to say the least. Nearly 70% of employees believe that their experience as a candidate reflects how a company treats its people. This means that employers need to step up their game and provide a positive candidate experience to attract top talent.

Communication is Key

Job seekers expect clear communication throughout the hiring process. A staggering 82% of employees want employers to provide a clear timeline for the hiring process and keep them updated regularly. Failure to do so can result in candidates losing interest and moving on to other opportunities. In fact, 55% of job seekers will give up and look elsewhere if they haven't heard back from an employer within two weeks of applying.

The Importance of a Seamless Application Process

Candidates are also demanding a seamless application process. They expect to be able to apply quickly and easily, with 20% giving up if the application takes more than 10 minutes to complete. Employers need to ensure that their application process is mobile-friendly, as 21% of candidates will drop off if they encounter difficulties on their mobile device.

Onboarding Matters

The recruitment process doesn't end once a candidate accepts a job offer. In fact, 9% of employees have left a company due to a poor onboarding experience. Employers need to prioritize onboarding to ensure that new hires feel welcome and prepared for their new role. A staggering 51% of employees expect HR to check in with them regularly throughout their first year of employment.

In today's competitive job market, employers need to adapt to the changing expectations of job seekers. By providing a positive candidate experience, clear communication, and a seamless application process, employers can attract and retain top talent.
