First, LinkedIn is a no-brainer. But did you know that your state's Department of Labor often provides valuable insights into local companies? In New York, for instance, the Department of Labor's Potential Employer search tool is a treasure trove of information. This powerful resource, fueled by Infogroup data, allows you to search for companies by industry or occupation. Simply enter your desired job title, select your county, and you'll receive a list of around 75 companies, complete with basic information. While this doesn't guarantee job openings, it does indicate that these companies have a history of hiring for that occupation.
Another valuable resource is Rochester's Top 100, a list of companies that have demonstrated significant financial growth. Similar lists exist for cities nationwide, providing a wealth of information on successful companies. Hoover's, a D&B product, offers in-depth company profiles, including top competitors and free industry overviews. While a subscription is required for full access, many local libraries provide free access to this valuable resource.
