Summary
This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Clinical Standards and Quality, (CCSQ).
As a Cytotechnologist, GS-0601-13, you will oversee the complete development, evaluation, implementation, and monitoring of health quality and safety standards and other health care procedures for laboratories under Medicare and Medicaid and the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA).

Certified in cytotechnology by a certifying agency approved by HHS.
Achieve and maintain a satisfactory grade to qualify as a cytotechnologist in a proficiency examination approved by HHS and designed to qualify as cytotechnologists.
Incumbent must have a current and valid driver's license from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In order to qualify for the GS-13, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1)Oversee specialized and technically demanding analytical laboratory procedures for diagnostic and research purposes;(2)Write and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and procedure manuals; AND (3) Establish and maintain effective quality control/assurance, knowledge of CLIA requirements, and preventive maintenance and safety standards.
In Addition, you must meet the following Conditions of Employment:
Certified in cytotechnology by a certifying agency approved by HHS.
Achieve and maintain a satisfactory grade to qualify as a cytotechnologist in a proficiency examination approved by HHS and designed to qualify as a cytotechnologist.
The incumbent must have a current and valid driver's license from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Education Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, all candidates must have the following educational requirements: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: medical field, health sciences or allied sciences.

Remote Positions at CMS: This is a remote position; however, the position reports to a CMS Office on a periodic basis (e.g. 1-2 times per year). Requirements to report to the office will vary and can be discussed at the time of interview. As such, your pay will be based on your home address.
