Job Description
Carilion Clinic (CC) and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) are searching for a
Chief of the Section of Geriatrics to lead our growing team of ten physicians and four APPs in an
academic program with opportunities for GME, medical student education, and research. We full
spectrum the spectrum of geriatric services, including a new outpatient Center for Healthy Aging
co-located with geriatric psychiatry, facility-based care, and a robust inpatient, observation, and
emergency department consultative practice on it’s way to Geriatric ED Accreditation in 2025 in our
newly expanded emergency department. Employed hospitalists and inpatient medical and surgical
teaching services handle the hospital admissions. Carilion Clinic has outstanding internal medicine
and family medicine residency programs, along with fellowships in Geriatrics and Hospice &
Palliative Medicine. Teaching opportunities abound and faculty appointments are through VTCSOM.
Research opportunities also exist with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, located on the same
campus as the medical school and across the street from our flagship medical center, the 763-bed
Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, the only Level 1 Trauma Center in southwestern Virginia serving
1 – 1.5 million residents.

Requirements include:
MD or equivalent and current Board Certification in
Geriatrics
· At least 5 years of progressive geriatrics leadership in an academic setting
with an academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor
· Evidence of strong organizational,
communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
· Physician leadership experience with
emphasis on team building, development of collaborative models of care, education, research, and
managing people and programs
· Experience with graduate medical education is preferred
