Summary About the Position: As a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Quality Assurance/Control representative you perform the full range of oversight for the over-haul, repair work, and preventive maintenance repairs on heavy duty mobile equipment and vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. Serve as the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) to ensure contract compliance with written procedures as required. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform tasks including overhauling, tearing down, reassembling, repairing and/or modifying a wide range of types and sizes of railroad locomotives, rail cars and/or heavy mobile equipment. Troubleshooting, diagnosing malfunctions, and repairing mechanical components such as engines and air brake systems. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. At times, works on top of or under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside and subject to extreme weather conditions, in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is frequently inadequately heated; work is dirty, greasy and noisy; possibility exists for injury from dropped units and parts, slipping tools, slipping from work position. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors and involves frequent exposure to exhaust fumes. Prescribed safety practices and safety equipment is used; protective hearing devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, respirators, and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
