Job Description
Summary
The primary purpose of the position is to serve as a trainer and to collaborate with the Deployed Resiliency Counselor and command leadership to provide integrated primary prevention programs to an Aircraft Carrier (CVN) or Large Deck Amphibious Assault Ship/Landing Helicopter Assault Ship (LHD/LHA), deploying with the ship and providing support services to deployed forces.

Conditions of Employment
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Must pass all applicable records and background check.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must be available for shipboard work. Moving about the ship requires agility and range of motion within walkways, ladder wells and other tight spaces.
- Selectees will be required to complete a physical examination upon entry to duty, and annually thereafter, and be determined to be physical fit for shipboard duty at all times.
- Due to worldwide travel, vaccinations may be required as a condition of employment per DoD requirements.
- The incumbent will be required to deploy at sea on board US Navy ships. Deployment lengths will vary from a few days to over 10 months at a time. The incumbent will receive a deployment differential of 40% of their salary while deployed.
- The work schedule while deployed will vary depending on requirements. The incumbent will be on call 24 hours a day while deployed for crisis intervention situations.
- At sea, the incumbent shares a stateroom in officer berthing; meals are in the Officers' Wardroom and are billed monthly.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of evidence-based prevention programs.
- Knowledge and experience in effective prevention program activities to prevent destructive/problematic behaviors.
- Knowledge, skills, and/or experience that demonstrate the incumbent's ability to work collaboratively to implement integrated prevention programs.
- Knowledge or experience that demonstrate incumbent's ability to appropriately identify, implement and evaluate prevention methodologies.
- Knowledge of the military language, customs, and culture to include navigating shipboard dynamics.
- Knowledge of the psychological and/or socioeconomic stresses caused by prolonged separations, which affect individuals, families, mission performance, and command readiness.
- Knowledge of FFSP mission, functions, policies, and procedures.
- Skills sufficient to provide technical assistance in prevention-related areas.
- Skill in delivery of education services, with a focus on human/personal growth and development.
- Skill in consulting with management to obtain or exchange information about work objectives, processes, procedures, and policies.
- Skill in networking and collaborating with all military services.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to identify needs, trends, and performance measures to evaluate program effectiveness and provide recommendations for process improvements.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with all levels of management, staff, and military personnel.
- Ability to compose written reports and material clearly, concisely, and effectively.
- Ability to deliver evidenced-based prevention training/education to a wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to use data management and reporting systems to collect and organize data drawn from databases.
- Ability to maintain accurate statistical framework for program data collection and reports.
- Ability to meet and deal effectively with diversified groups, organizations and individuals and to maintain and establish clear relationships and lines of communication at all levels using tact and diplomacy in all interactions.
Education
A degree in behavioral or social science or related field appropriate to the position.
OR
A combination of education and experience that provided knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated acquired knowledge of one more or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Proof of education MUST be uploaded at time of application for consideration. If degree is not conferred, you MUST provide a copy of your high school diploma or equivalent with your college transcripts.
Additional information
- Employees (and their family members) who require medical or dental care in Japan may experience severe limitations accessing medical care both on the military installation and the local economy, and also could incur costly medical expenses.
- Incentives such as relocation, recruitment and retention bonuses may be authorized in accordance with applicable laws and instructions.
- This position receives Afloat Differential Pay: 40% of basic pay for each day embarked on a ship deployed away from its homeport.
- Return rights for current employees must be negotiated with the losing command. Candidates not associated with the Department of Defense are ineligible for return rights.
- Selection may be tentative pending the completion of the satisfactory employment reference checks and receipt of proof of education (where applicable).
- Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.
- Participation in the Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer is required. Salary is commensurate with experience and/or education.
- Selectees initially recruited from the United States or who are already on a Transportation Agreement will be entitled to transportation and moving costs for themselves and their family members. Household goods may be shipped and a housing allowance is paid to cover monthly housing and utility costs.
- Compensation includes base pay, a Post Allowance which is a non-taxable (federal) allowance based on the Japanese yen exchange rate, and a Living Quarters Allowance sufficient to pay for a housing unit within close proximity of the Naval base. You may also ship or store your household goods. These and other benefits are available to those personnel hired on an overseas transportation agreement.
