Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. 1) Installing, modifying, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing industrial or domestic high-temperature water and high-pressure piping systems and equipment; 2) Planning and laying out installation, modifying, and repairing various new and existing piping systems from blueprints, sketches, etc.; 3) Working with processing lines that may contain hazardous materials; 4) Aligning pipes, valves, fittings, and joints for accurate match, and installing proper braces and supports to control movement and vibration for expansion and contraction; and 4) Following all safety requirements, practices, and procedures when working in a hazardous or industrial environment as well as on all work assignments. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. The work involves standing, stooping, vending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. May be required to make installations and repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. You may be reassigned to a similar position at any site or workstation within the commuting area as a condition of employment.
