Summary
This announcement uses the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Hiring is at the GS-0817-05 or GS-0817-06 level, with full performance level of GS-06. Selection at either grade is at managements discretion.
Salary Range:
GS-05: $43,550 - $56,612;
GS-06: $48,547 - $63,113

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Must be willing and able to take and pass a pre-employment physical and a physical every two years thereafter.
Must be willing and able to obtain and/or maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.
Must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time.
Must be willing and able to obtain and/or maintain a USACE boating safety certificate within one year
Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements
This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify at the GS-05 level:
Specialized Experience GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Experience in assisting with hydrographic and/or topographic surveys in accordance with industry standards, principles, and procedures. 2) Experience in using various surveying tools and equipment such as horizontal positioning systems global position systems, automatic X-Y plotter, or optical instruments. 3) Experience in performing computations, adjustments, and/or graphic portrayals of field data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution (a) with major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics or equivalent (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
To qualify at the GS-06 level:
Specialized Experience GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Experience conducting hydrographic or topographic surveys on a variety of sites in different conditions, and 2.) Operating instruments such as total stations, laser scanners, or GPS receivers, and 3.) Assisting in the preparation of finished maps and charts by processing data using computer hardware and software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed equivalent to the next lower grade in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position such as; surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
