Summary
You will serve as a AUDIOLOGIST in the Occupational Audiology Department of NMRTC PEARL HARBOR HI.
This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology as applicable in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Maintains current qualifications and credentials as a certified Occupational Hearing Conservation Course Director through the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC).
In accordance with BUMEDINST 6010.30 Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) - or - Board Certification from the American Board of Audiology (ABA).
In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15F, employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain the Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
IAW BUMEDINST 6220.9B, all personnel who may come in contact with patients must receive and maintain appropriate vaccination against seasonal influenza.
In accordance with BUMEDINST 6230.15 employees who have contact with or potential exposure to human blood or blood products are provided Hepatitis B virus vaccine in accordance with the local blood borne pathogen exposure control plan.
The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, holidays, or on an "on call basis".
Qualifications
In Addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Evaluating, managing, dispositioning and counseling an expansive range of complex and difficult patients populations including those involving auditory dysfunction associated with traumatic brain injury, polytrauma or post-traumatic stress disorders;
Conducting comprehensive diagnostic audiological assessments and procedures, and making critical patient medical qualification and dispositions;
Providing management and oversight of Hearing Conservation Programs (HCP) and hearing loss prevention efforts;
Assessing hearing readiness through, (i.e., conducting an exhaustive review and documentation of auditory, medical, employment, and noise hazard histories; administering a detailed, comprehensive audiology examination; assessing worksite communication requirements; determining the potential for continued hearing degradation; and assessing impact and potential consequences of miscommunication on employee safety and job productivity); AND
Utilizing principles, practices and theories used in occupational audiology to implement and/or manage comprehensive hearing conservation programs.

Basic Requirements

The mandatory education program described below must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology(external link) (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association(external link) (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. (Please provide copy of transcripts. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating.)
Degree: For audiologist positions, a graduate or higher level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. Applicants for positions with both speech pathologist and audiologist duties must have successfully completed all the requirements for a graduate or higher level degree with 18 semester hours in one of the fields with approved clinical practice and, in addition, must have either completed a minor in the other field or must have had at least 1 year of professional experience in the other field. (You must provide copy of transcripts. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating.)

Licensure: Must posses a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Speech/Language Pathology and/ or Audiology as applicable in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (You must provide copy of licensure. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating.)

Additional information
An Audiology Doctorate (AuD) or PhD degree (with a focus in Audiology) is preferred.
This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
