Summary This position is located in Nursing Services, Surgery Department-Operating Room and the incumbent reports directly to the Nurse Manager of the Operating Room. The Surgical Technician is a member of the surgical team and provides assistance to the surgeon and other members during surgical procedures. Incumbent will report to Downtown Division. *The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be January 3rd , 2025 with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st of each month.* Learn more about this agency Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job To be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 Physical Requirements: This position requires standing for long periods, lifting, pushing, walking, bending, stooping, transferring, and transporting patients and heavy packs. Must be quick and dependable in taking emergency actions. Must be dexterous in passing instruments to surgeons without compromising principles of aseptic technique and in a manner requiring little or no effort from surgeon. Must be emotionally stable and able to adjust to different types of personalities/behaviors using cheerfulness, compassion, courtesy and empathy. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2025. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Assisting the surgeon by performing such procedures as grafts, suctioning, holding retractors, applying skin staples, and cutting sutures. Transporting patients to and from the OR using safe transport techniques, performs patient care as directed/assigned, operating and maintaining highly technical equipment and instrumentation; utilizing positioning devices or equipment safely and appropriately to prevent patient injury. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one (1) full year of graduate education. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation.
