POSITION TITLE: Chief of UMP Oncology REPORTS TO: UMP CEO/President (direct), SMP Chief Medical
Officer (indirect), SHC Chief of Medical Oncology (indirect), SHC Cancer Destination Service Line
Medical Director (indirect) SUPERVISOR FOR: UMP Oncology Clinic Site Leads and UMP Oncology APC
Lead. PURPOSE STATEMENT: As a member of the Physician Leadership Team, the primary role of the Chief
of UMP Oncology is to provide physician leadership in the oversight and administrative operations of
the Cancer Care Service Line Program/Quality of all the medical groups affiliated with SMP,
including UMP, and comprehensive care coordination for the patients. The Chief of UMP Oncology will
serve as the leader of UMP and SMP medical oncology which serves as a key component of Stanford
Medicine's community medical oncology service. The Chief of UMP Oncology works collaboratively with
the UMP CEO/President, UMP Chief of Specialty Care Services, UMP Chief of Professional Affairs, UMP
Physician Site Lead(s), other physician members of the practice, Stanford School of Medicine, SMP
leadership, and the UMP Management Services Leadership team to oversee business development,
clinical, and administrative operations. The Chief of UMP Oncology reflects the mission, vision,
values, and philosophy of the organization which is to deliver on the promise of Precision Health
and Wellness to our patients, their families, and the community we serve. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential duties of this position include the following (other duties may be
assigned):
Function in a dyadic leadership relationship with the Senior Director of Cancer
Network.
Responsible for the continued development of community clinical programs to achieve Cancer
Destination Service Line goals.
Participate in the development and integration of clinical pathways
at UMP Oncology practice locations.
Provide leadership to all network aspects of the Cancer
Destination Service Line including strategic, operational, resource management, education, and
research initiatives.
Achieve clinical quality outcomes, maintain QOPI certification, achieve high
patient experience scores, workforce wellbeing, network growth, participation in Stanford research
trials, and achievement of financial goals.
Practice as a medical oncologist and/or hematologist and
maintain a part-time clinical practice (approximately 2 days per week in the clinic) in addition to
the other responsibilities as described. The total commitment, administrative plus clinical, is
full-time.
Provide overall clinical leadership for UMP across multiple community oncology
practices.
Represent UMP Oncology in developing market competitive compensation arrangements and
funding that enables recruiting and retaining top talent.
Build strong relationships across the
organization, providing mentorship and guidance to UMP clinicians in close partnership with SOM/SHC
faculty.
Provide SMP and UMP perspectives at medical group-wide, foundation-wide, and SOM/SHC
meetings. Provide the perspective of UMP Oncology on organizational issues and decision
making.
Champion implementation of practice improvements, workflow improvements, and quality
improvement initiatives at the regional/division level.
Actively engage in developing solutions to
improve the performance of the practice/specialty within the medical group.
Support leadership team
in setting goals for clinic performance, quality, service, and patient care for physicians and
mid-level providers as it relates to the practice/specialty.
Work closely with the UMP management
team to plan and conduct regular practice/specialty specific meetings. The meetings should have time
dedicated to addressing quality and service issues from a patient perspective, financial
performance, staff concerns, and opportunities for growth and improvement.
Serve as a resource for
developing and designing Oncology Care Coordination Programs for high-risk patients as part of
population health management.
Support Physician and provider practice development and
recruitment/retention efforts in the region or service areas.
In collaboration with the Stanford
Cancer Institute (SCI) and Cancer Clinical Trials Office (CCTO), engage in the establishment of
clinical trial workflows throughout the network geography and encourage participation across the
oncology service line to provide innovative care options.
Participate and represent UMP in
organizational quality and strategic discussions in medical oncology.
Collaborate effectively with
SOM faculty, all UMP specialties, SMP and the Cancer Service Line to extend the benefits of Stanford
Oncology to the communities we serve.
Actively engage in developing solutions to improve access,
quality, and joy of practice in UMP Oncology.
Attend community, SMP, service line, and SOM meetings,
and period leadership meetings as requested.
Provide any additional services as requested.
Adheres
to high standards of ethical and professional conduct and follows UMP's policies and
procedures.
Represents the mission, vision values, and philosophy of Stanford Healthcare and UMP at
the clinic level.
Participates in Breakthrough Initiatives and committees comprised of all the PPLs
to address some organizational needs.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of medical school. Completion of residency
program, and Board eligible/certified. Current medical license in the State of California.
Unrestricted DEA certificate. Leadership ability within the medical community. Ability to motivate,
support, and supervise providers. Ability and willingness to demonstrate and maintain competency as
required for job title and the unit/area(s) of
