Summary
About the Position: You will operate equipment and perform duties in support of the maintenance functions at the project. Operate a construction-grade tractor with various attachments; maintenance duties to maintain and repair the dam and recreation facilities; during the flood season, operate the dam on a rotational basis, and operate a 75-ton mobile boom crane.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to POSSESS (at the time of selection) and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. Proof will be required upon selection.
Must obtain a Class A California Commercial Driver License (CDL) within 12 months.
Subject to a pre-employment physical exam. This position requires heavy lifting.
Subject to pre-employment drug screening and random testing thereafter.
Must obtain the required Load Handling Equipment (LHE) (crane, forklift) certification(s) and license(s) within 12 months IAW EM 385-1-1, Section 16.
This position may require evening, weekend, and overtime shift work.
Must wear prescribed uniform.
Must acquire a Corps of Engineers boat operator's license.
Must obtain valid CPR certificate and first responder (or equivalent) certificate.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR without more than normal supervision. Engineering Equipment Operation Screen out: Operate and maintain heavy equipment to include: bulldozers, loaders, dump trucks, excavators, backhoes, etc..
- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)
Physical Effort: Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work requires frequent standing, bending, crouching, kneeling and climbing. Frequently lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally items weighing more with assistance of material lifting devices or other workers.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in both the field and shops. Incumbent is exposed to extreme heat and cold, noisy, dirty, and dusty areas, uneven ground, and insect and reptile stings or bites. There is danger of drowning when working on flood control structures. Is exposed to inadequately heated areas, as well as, dirty, greasy, fumed, and noisy areas. Possibility exists for injury from dropped parts, slipping tools or slipping from work positions. Work inside is usually performed on concrete floors, which is fatigue producing from long periods of standing and stooping. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable fumes from exhaust of engines, minor cuts and bruises from working in close places and hazards of moving vehicles, equipment, machinery, swinging loads, overturning, and breakage of cables. Subject to bruises, broken bones, and strained back.
