Job Description

The Division of Respirology and Sleep Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University invites applications to the position of Academic Respirologist.

We welcome applications from those interested in roles as Clinician Scientist or a Clinician Scholar. Clinician Scientists are proven leaders in biomedical research, capable of advancing the field of respiratory medicine in a significant or innovative way. They would be provided with significant time protection for academic activities. Clinician Scholars, while more clinically focused, are encouraged to participate in scholarship and medical education. The final decision on which type of role will be selected will depend upon the applicants.

Candidates must exhibit a strong potential for innovative scholarly contributions. The Division of Respirology offers collaborative opportunities within our group to support interests in any of: Quality Improvement, Medical Education, Applied Physiology, Clinical Research, Health Informatics, and Knowledge Translation.

Candidates must demonstrate an aptitude for medical education. They will contribute to the teaching of medical students and residents at the School of Medicine at Queen’s University, including those within the core and subspecialty Respirology training programs. As opinion leaders, Faculty members also make service contributions to the Division, the Department, the University, and the broader community.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate exemplary clinical skills and service. Clinical responsibilities will include general and subspecialty respirology clinics, bronchoscopy, and respirology in-patient consultation service. Clinical expertise in Pulmonary Hypertension, Airways Diseases, Interstitial Lung Disease, Lung Cancer, or Sleep Medicine will be considered an asset. Experience with endobronchial ultrasound is preferred.

Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent) and must be eligible for licensure in Respirology with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Respirology.

Academic rank will be commensurate with experience. Members of the Department of Medicine enjoy competitive compensation package. Faculty and their dependents receive a comprehensive benefits package including prescription drug coverage, vision care, dental care, long term disability insurance, life insurance and access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program. Members of the Department of Medicine also participate in a pension plan. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying employees, their spouses and dependent children. Queen’s values families and is pleased to provide a ‘top up’ to government parental leave benefits for eligible employees on maternity/parental leave. In addition, Queen’s provides partial reimbursement for eligible daycare expenses for employees with dependent children in daycare.
