Accountant I (Payroll)

Job Description

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

This position processes all payrolls and performs analytical reviews.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED

1. Responsible for processing all payrolls.
2. Creates, enters, and posts journal entries.
3. Performs analytical reviews related to payroll.
4. Reconciles general ledger accounts.
5. Research payroll related issues for employees and management.
6. Performs account reconciliations and resolves outstanding issues.
7. Resolves questions and problems with employees regarding payroll issues.
8. Trains other staff.
9. Files timecard, payroll, and other information.
10. Generates various payroll reports.
11. Performs data entry.
12. Performs other payroll duties, as required.

SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in accounting.
• A minimum of one year of responsible accounting experience, preferably in payroll.
• A broad knowledge of accounting and financial control principles and their business applications.
• Excellent accuracy and attention to detail in performing accounting tasks.
• Demonstrated human relations and effective written/verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
• Demonstrated computer skills, preferably spreadsheet, word processing database, and other applicable software programs.

Merit develops, manufactures and markets single-use medical devices primarily for diagnosing and treating cardiovascular and vascular disease.
