Job Description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

Anduril’s Air Defense team owns the most complex capability set that Anduril has fielded to date. Each deployment often comes with a unique combination of hardware and software products in various configurations, targeting different missions, and optimized for different customer expectations. Additionally, the Air Defense team has brought a myriad of novel software and robotics capabilities to life in recent years - Mobile Sentry, Pulsar, Roadrunner, Anvil-M to name a few in-house developed products. This complements our deep arsenal of third-party sensor and effector integrations fielded today, actively protecting our warfighters.
To deliver on Anduril’s mission, the Air Defense team must continue to scale existing operations of critical capabilities while simultaneously bootstrapping and developing novel products without compromising on quality or velocity. One of the primary challenges in building and maintaining this novel innovation pipeline is the difficulty of development and test against hardware-constrained and increasingly complex or lethal assets. Therefore, moving as much of our test and development out of the field and into software is one of the most important areas of focus to deliver this innovation pipeline reliably.
To date, capability groups within Air Defense have been largely left to their own devices when it comes to simulation capabilities. This means existing solutions have been team-specific, non-standard, and do not capture the full impact across our Family of Systems. Further, these systems do not have a common architecture or path to converge and provide insights to higher-level mission impacts across groups of assets. This convergence is also required for many initiatives - for example, to achieve representative analysis of system-level performance within Classified computing environments, a major ask from multiple partner entities.
Now, we are in search of a Simulation Engineering Lead that can lay out and execute a vision for shared simulation and SITL development roadmap across the capability groups within our broad Family of Systems. This means building high-confidence comprehensive capabilities on a common architecture, capable of composition and evaluate of mission performance across a diverse laydown of assets and environments. This individual will exert their vision of our simulation ecosystem across multiple teams of developers, across a number of internal departments, and drive our Air Defense engineering organization into a new era of simulation-driven development and test.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Collaborate with Leaders from Air Defense, Engineering Simulation, SIE & SITL, AMP, Vehicle Autonomy, AndurilSim to develop a shared Vision of E2E Simulation Driven Development & Test
  • Define the technical roadmap for bringing this shared vision to life leveraging existing teams and direct resourcing
  • Lead the technical design & construction of key components which bolster and integrate existing internal capabilities
  • Own the success of the Air Defense Engineering Org’s Simulation Ecosystem

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Operations Research, Electrical Engineering, related technical degree, or equivalent experience
  • Experience developing simulation ecosystems
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5
  • Experience with NixOS
  • A mindset towards innovative approaches of problem solving
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS clearance
