Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Climate Adaptation and Resilience expert to join our growing coastal resilience team in our Virginia Beach, VA office to support and grow our Climate Adaptation and Resilience practice in the tidewater area and around the globe. We are looking for a technical expert with strong design and resilience strategy development skills to work with our multidiscipline teams and develop approaches to address issues related to climate change, sea level rise, coastal storms, intense and frequent rainfall, and other natural disasters. This position will focus on climate adaptation and resilience projects for local, state, and federal government agencies as well as other public and private sector clients.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating with and leading multidiscipline teams consisting of planners, scientists, engineers, landscape architects, and economists on projects that include coastal and economic analyses, hydrologic, hydraulic, and hydrodynamic modeling, flood risk assessments, and flood risk mitigation designs.
  • Leading resilience strategy development, as well as the development of conceptual, preliminary, and final designs of nature-based and hard infrastructure solutions to provide flood hazard mitigation for critical infrastructure and communities.
  • Coordinating with state and federal agencies and project stakeholders to gain consensus and approvals for project implementation.
  • Engineering design for climate adaptation and resiliency projects.
  • Coordinating with technical disciplines including geotechnical, structural, civil, environmental, and architectural among others.
  • Managing schedule and budget.
  • Overseeing junior staff on tasks and deliverables.
  • Coordinating with clients and internal staff to identify and mitigate critical project and program issues.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations.
  • Business development and growth of AECOM's climate adaptation and resilience market.

With more than 3,200 Water professionals in all major markets throughout the United States and Canada, AECOM's Water business line leverages nearly a century of local, national and international project experience to provide today's municipalities, industries and governments with cost-effective solutions to their Water challenges. We deliver our services-from environmental planning studies to detailed design, construction management, and operations and maintenance-to a wide range of public and private sector clients. Our public sector work encompasses everything from small rural communities, to large urban centers, to agencies with regional responsibilities. Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, with a minimum of 10+ years of related experience.
  • Professional Engineering License.
  • Demonstrated experience developing design plans, specifications, and climate adaptation and resilience strategies.
  • Experience with coastal infrastructure projects.
  • Proven business development experience; working with clients to provide resilient solutions; developing and reviewing proposals
  • Minimum of 5+ years of Project Management duties such as monitoring budgets and scheduling for all tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in tidewater area with coastal resilience projects.
  • General understanding of Hydrologic and Hydraulic modeling and coastal flood risk models, including MIKE21, ADCIRC, SWAN, SWMM, InfoWorks, and HEC-RAS.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct. effective client and agency presentations and written report preparation.
  • Ability to work with a team consisting of several technical disciplines.
