Job Description

AECOM has a position available for an Ecologist - Environmental Planning & Permitting in Orlando, FL, Tampa, FL, Atlanta, GA, Greenville, SC or Raleigh, NC. This is a fantastic opportunity to take the next step in your career and be a part of AECOM's leading Environmental Planning and Permitting Team based in the southeastern United States. This position is a hybrid role (remote/office) that will include some field work.

This position will give you the opportunity to contribute to all stages of the environmental impact assessment and environmental approvals process including planning and execution of field work for technical studies, development and undertaking monitoring programs, data analysis and reporting.

Additionally, this position will provide you with an opportunity to develop your career, collaborating with members of multidisciplinary teams in both marine and terrestrial environments. You will gain exposure to a diverse array of high-profile projects across a range of sectors including electric utilities, oil and gas, ports and harbors, Department of Defense, renewable energy, public infrastructure and mining. You will work amongst a team of experienced peers and alongside our clients, while learning first-hand from our in-house senior advisors and technical leaders.

The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies develop technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Responsible for advanced duties and activities in their specialized functional area.
  • Conducts research and does investigation work as required.
  • Plans and organizes project studies.
  • Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.
  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.
  • With an attention to detail, you will be willing to take on new challenges and to contribute ideas and think innovatively to solve problems you may encounter.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS degree and 4+ years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid Driver's License and Clean Driving Record
  • Due to the nature of the work US CItizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline (BSc. Env Sc. or similar with a Marine Science or Biology major) is preferred
  • 4+ years relevant industry experience in marine environmental science with a demonstrated client focus.
  • An understanding of and experience with delivering approvals within federal and state regulatory frameworks governing environmental impact assessment is required.
  • A sound understanding of environmental impact assessment principles, environmental legislation and regulatory requirements for both terrestrial, offshore and coastal marine developments.
  • Experience working with marine fauna is favorable, but not essential.
  • Experience planning and implementing field studies in remote locations
  • Statistical data analysis and GIS skills.
  • Experience with task and/or project management is favorable, but not essential.
  • NEPA experience preferred, but not essential
