As a Systems Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to research, architect, model, simulate, test, certify and improve cutting edge products and services. You'll be developing complex system architectures within contextual modeling platforms, ushering them from operational concept through preliminary and detailed design, simulation, and test using progressive tools. As a cross-functional engineer, you are in charge of system-level ownership of new products and processes through the product lifecycle.

As Sierra Space continues to grow we are looking for talented Logistics Engineers to join our Space Destinations Logistics team. This posting showcases the types of skills and technologies we work on. Your interest in this posting will allow us to match your skill set with current and future openings.
As part of the Destinations Logistics Team, you'll support either the Cargo & Stowage Planning team or the Maintenance Team. The Cargo & Stowage Planning team is responsible for visiting vehicle manifests to and from the space station, long term on-orbit stowage planning, and performing assessments to define the visiting vehicle traffic model. The Maintenance Team is responsible for the overall maintainability of the space station, including defining the maintenance concept and requirements, performing Level of Repair Analysis (LORA), performing Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA), providing feedback on maintainability of designs, performing sparing analysis, and integrating the minimum spares list.
We're looking for logistics engineering candidates with skills/experience in one or more of the following areas:
On-orbit Cargo & Stowage Planning

  • Managing manifests for crew and cargo missions
  • Performing analysis to determine launch cadence to support customer & resupply needs.
  • Working with design teams on on-orbit stowage crew interfaces and layout
  • Working with subsystem teams to understand consumable rates & report on consumable demands & predicted levels.
  • Long term on-orbit stowage planning
  • Developing requirements for software tools needed to perform the cargo & stowage planning function.
  • Familiarity with CRS2 vehicles or ISS desired


Cargo Packing

  • Experience designing foam or other packing material to protect hardware launched in cargo bags on visiting vehicles.
  • Experience with ground cargo packing and unpacking operations for visiting vehicle cargo missions.


Maintenance/Maintainability Engineering

  • Ability to evaluate the maintainability of new systems through both quantitative and qualitative means, using past experiences and lessons learned from hardware failures and maintenance activities as a guide.
  • Brings forward opportunities to lower sustaining costs through up front changes to hardware.
  • Experience performing hands on maintenance activities professionally or as part of a hobby.
  • Familiarity with Reliability principles and products such as design life, Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and Failure Modes, Effects, & Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Experience analyzing system designs and reliability data to determine hardware sparing quantities.


Logistics Product Data Management

  • Experience managing data generated from logistics analysis such as Maintenance Task Analysis and sparing assessments (GEIA-STD-0007)


Note: These roles will be on-site and the preferred location is the Greater Denver Metropolitan Area (Broomfield, CO or Centennial, CO). We can also consider candidates in: Houston, TX, Madison, WI, and Kennedy Space Center, FL offices.
Must-haves:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering field or related discipline and typically the following years of relevant experience noting that higher education may be considered in lieu of experience:
  • Systems Engineer Level I: 0-2 years
  • Systems Engineer Level II: Typically, two (2) or more years
  • Systems Engineer Level III: Typically, six (6) or more years
  • Senior Systems Engineer: Typically, a minimum of 10 (ten) or more years
  • Principal Systems Engineer: Typically, a minimum of 14 (fourteen) or more years
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Practical knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices
  • Skill working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.


Preferred:

  • Experience with performing trades, thinking big picture, and weighing many potential impacts.
  • Skilled at working in fast-paced environment and managing priorities and level of detail to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles
  • Demonstrated experience briefing technical subjects to both technical and non-technical people and delivering key messages and insights from analysis products
  • Experience integrating and resolving inputs from multiple sources into a single product
  • Experience working on a human spaceflight program
    Ability to decompose a large, complicated problem into manageable pieces, understand such problems from different points of view, and explain issues and solutions to other engineers
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required Learn more about the background check process for Security Clearances

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
$104,827.91 - $157,241.88
