Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Participating in projects involving local energy strategies, masterplans, policy advice and market research
  • Working and developing specialist analytical and technical skills in decarbonisation and net zero solutions, taking a whole energy approach
  • Communicating outputs including writing reports and presentations and devising powerful visualisations
  • Supporting projects in design and development phases
  • Attending client meetings
  • Supporting business development for the Energy Strategy and Planning service line, including writing bids, growing networks within Ramboll, maintaining existing client relations, and developing new business


About the Opportunity

As our new Graduate Consultant, you will be part of the Energy Strategy and Planning Team, working on projects for national, regional, and local governments, the wider public sector and major national and international organisations.

Our solutions involve an integrated approach to heat, power, and transport. Our approach is centred on our core expertise in low carbon district heating and cooling, in which we are market leading. We work on projects across the UK, often involving multiple disciplines to deliver sustainable solutions to government, public sector, and major national and international organisations.

For this role, we believe your starting point is:

  • Relevant degree in Engineering, Building Services, Renewable or Sustainable Energy, Business or Social Sciences
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining sustainable energy principles in plain language, both verbally and in writing
  • Proven and competent in the subject matter of the assignment and able to work independently with intermittent supervision.
  • Be proactive in addressing problem issues, presenting, and promoting solutions.
  • Ability to organise and conduct several activities simultaneously.

Selection Process

We aim to respond to your application shortly after the deadline by the latest. There are several steps to our selection process. You will advance onto the next step if you are successfully shortlisted.

  • Step 1: CV Screening
  • Step 2: Screening telephone call
  • Step 3: Assessment Centre. 

The date for the Assessment Centre will be confirmed when we have completed our review process. We will update applicants that advance to this stage with allowances for travel arrangements to be made in good time.

  1. Describe energy generation and consumption challenges and opportunities for a town or region in the United Kingdom in transitioning to net zero by 2050 (250 words max)
  2. Describe the implications for local stakeholders, and how policy and regulation might support the transition (250 words max)
  3. Outline the key priorities of how to reach the 2050 goal (250 words max)
  4. Describe the non-technology issues that will need to be overcome, and ideas on how to solve them (250 words max)
