Job Description
ABOUT RETOOL:
Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software: Gartner estimates that up to 50% of all code is written for internal use. This is the operational software for refunding orders, underwriting loans, onboarding employees, analyzing transactions, and providing customer support. But most companies don’t have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.Â
At Retool, we’re on a mission to bring good software to everyone. We’re building a new type of development platform that combines the benefits of traditional software development with a drag-and-drop UI editor and AI, making it dramatically faster to build internal tools. We believe that the future of software development lies in abstracting away the tedious and repetitive tasks developers waste time on, while creating reusable components that act as a force multiplier for future developers and projects. The result is not just productivity, but good software by default. And that’s a mission worth striving for.Â
Today, our customers span from small startups building their first operational tools to Fortune 500 companies building mission-critical apps for thousands of users across their business. Interested in joining us? Let us know!Â
WHY WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU:
Â
Retool started as a way to address obstacles with internal tools and has grown into a company that solves internal tooling for thousands of companies, from one-person startups to S&P 500 enterprises. We’ve done a lot with a little–we have a rapidly growing engineering team and a laundry list of features and foundational infrastructure pieces we want to tackle. We’re looking for an experienced software engineer for our Engineering Experience (EngX) team. You will lead projects to building foundational internal tooling to increase the velocity of our developer team. As an early member of the infrastructure team, you will build and automate foundational systems for reliability, security, performance, developer velocity, and scale. Whether you’re interested in wide breadth or deep depth, there are both opportunities for both. You will work cross functionally, supporting the engineering, product, design, customer success, support, and sales functions.
Â
IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL:
- Build high-quality internal tooling to help our make our developers more productive
- Define and automate developer process/workflow
- Support and extend our CI systems in production
- Work with the team to set and prioritize our roadmap to maximize customer impact
- Conduct engineering interviews for new team members
THE SKILLSET YOU'll BRING:
- 3+ years of experience as an individual contributor on fast-moving engineering teamsÂ
- Passion for building and productionizing developer productivity tools, frameworks, and other aspects of platform engineering
- Experience with the JavaScript / TypeScript ecosystem and compilers / bundlers such as webpack, swc, esbuild
- (Preferred) Experience with Bazel
- You're excited by the ambiguity and high-ownership culture of early-stage startups
- You are pragmatic, solution-oriented, and scrappy
- You enjoy working collaboratively with a broad range of job functions and roles
