Summary
This position serves as a Registered Nurse working in the Obstetrics Unit within the Claremore Indian Hospital in Claremore, OK. The position reports to the assigned Supervisory Nurse. The hospital offers full services, including general medicine and surgery, pediatrics, and outpatient services.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.
The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
Position may be subject to an alternate work schedule, call back, day or night shift s as needed, nights/weekends/holidays.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. After you begin your employment, your continued employment is contingent upon the outcome of a complete background investigation as determined by the sensitivity level of your position. Qualifications
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Degree and License Waiting Period for Impending Graduates:
The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are currently enrolled and expected to complete the required education and obtain the required licensure within 9 months of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified. Applicants who have not completed their education requirements (but who are within the established timeframe for qualifying) must submit:
- Documentation from the educational institution's registrar, dean or other appropriate official that attests to the applicable timeframe for completion of the professional program/coursework, AND
- A copy of the most recent unofficial transcript.
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
AND
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate the education and/or work experience listed below for the specific grade level(s) you are applying to. Your work experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the type of work and/or tasks as stated for the grade level(s) you are applying to:
GS-5:
Possess a bachelor's degree in Nursing with no experience;
OR;
Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing AND have one (1) full year of professional nursing experience. This experience includes: developing and implementing a plan of care for assigned patients and providing nursing interventions based on an established plan of care and evaluating effectiveness.
GS-7:
Possess a bachelor's degree in Nursing AND have eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) provision*;
OR;
Posses a bachelor's degree in Nursing AND at least one (1) full year of professional nursing experience. Examples of experience include: planning, scheduling and providing comprehensive antepartum and postpartum nursing care for women and newborns in an Obstetrical Unit.
OR;
Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing AND two (2) full years of professional nursing experience. Examples of experience include: planning, scheduling and providing comprehensive antepartum and postpartum nursing care for women and newborns in an Obstetrical Unit.
OR;
Completion of one (1) full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program.
GS-09:
Posses a master's degree in professional nursing;
OR
One (1) full year of professional nursing experience AND possess a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of experience include: planning, scheduling and providing comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum nursing care for women and newborns in an Obstetrical Unit; and providing technical guidance to other registered nurses.
GS-10:
Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
OR:
One (1) full year of professional nursing experience AND possess a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of experience include: planning, scheduling and providing comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum nursing care for women and newborns in an Obstetrical Unit; providing technical guidance to other registered nurses; and assigning tasks to and overseeing patient care administered by nursing personnel.
*If claiming eligibility for Superior Academic Achievement, candidates must provide copies of transcripts (official or unofficial) must be included at the time of initial application. If unable to obtain transcripts, candidates must provide sufficient evidence to validate courses completed and credit hours earned. Eligibility is based on one of the following:
- Class standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision and based
on completed courses. - Grade-point average (G.P.A.) - Applicants must have a G.P.A. of: a.) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (''B" or better) as recorded on their
official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years
of the curriculum; or b.) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in
the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. - Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society - Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
This position may be covered by a Bargaining Unit.
