Summary:
The Estes Park Trail-Gazette is looking for a Reporter to cover multiple beats in the unique mountain town of Estes Park, Colorado. This is a great opportunity for a reporter to gain experience at a community newspaper with an engaging community. This person will also work with our Affinity partner to make sure the content looks appropriate.
Estes Park is nestled at the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state. The Trail-Gazette is the newspaper of record for the Estes Valley and is printed twice weekly and online daily.
What you will do:

• Help cultivate a strong audience, both online and in the community with your mastery of AP style
• Be a strong storyteller and will possess a unique journalistic voice
• Develop a social media presence as the go-to person for public safety news, and will write about that news both in daily and enterprise story format
• Cultivate fresh ideas to bring to the Trail-Gazette using your social media and search-engine optimization
• Work to meet regular production deadlines
• Utilize and experiment with new digital tools and platforms
• Contribute to growing our digital audience with daily postings online, on social media, etc.
• Review all content from our Affinity partner 50-60% of the time
• Foster a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration

What you will bring:

• Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
• Experience at a daily newspaper or online news outlet preferred
• News reporting and writing, shooting video, using social media, creating enterprising content
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
• Strong reporting, writing, organizational and story structure skills
• Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
• Must be flexible to work evenings, weekends and/or holiday's as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires
• Must live in area/county or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)

The hourly wage is $18.00-$20.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
