The Opportunity
The PracticeTek DevOps Team is responsible for keeping all customer-facing services and other PracticeTek production systems running smoothly. DevOps Engineers are a blend of pragmatic operators and software craftspeople who apply sound engineering principles, operational discipline, and mature automation to our operating environments.
DevOps Engineers specialize in systems (operating systems, storage subsystems, networking) while implementing best practices for availability, reliability, and scalability, with varied interests in algorithms and distributed systems. The team’s experience feeds back into other Engineering and Product groups within the company.
Areas of Accountability
The responsibilities of the Senior DevOps Engineer are as follows:

• Manage application deployments using Helm charts and the Kubernetes ecosystem.
• Optimize the infrastructure on AWS utilizing Terraform, Ansible, and other tools.
• Track the health, performance, and availability of infrastructure using observability and monitoring tools.
• Troubleshoot, evaluate, and resolve operational challenges contributing to defined service level objectives.
• Maintain supporting infrastructure and tooling to meet the needs of PracticeTek development teams.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.

Competencies for Success:
 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience as a DevOps Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer.
• Experience in running and operating production workloads in Kubernetes and its ecosystem.
• Experience regularly interacting with internal and external customers, and a focus on resolving their requests with a sense of urgency.
• Ability to reason about large systems - how they work and can be operated on a large scale, edge cases, failure modes, and behaviors.
• Strong background with Infrastructure as a Code technologies, such as Terraform and Ansible. Experience with database systems including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server would be considered a bonus.
• Familiarity with scripting languages and understanding of basic concepts in either Shell or Python.
• Drive to learn and urge to learn from the feedback provided by peers.
• Clear and concise written and verbal communication.

At PracticeTek we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors to determine our offers of employment. This includes internal and external market factors as well as your individual experience and skills. These considerations can cause compensation to vary but we reasonably expect to pay between 60750-145000 for this position.
