Job Description

As Senior Legal Counsel (Product and Technology), reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, your focus will be helping the Legal & Governance function to build a world-class legal and regulatory infrastructure for sustainable business performance into the future. You will serve as the day-to-day point of contact for Xplor’s Product, Technology and Global Operations teams, advising the group on legal risks and providing advice with regard to Xplor’s suite of products, technology infrastructure and operations. You will be part of a team that ensures compliance with regulatory requirements; including obligations relating to customer data and payment processing services; and will be liaising with internal stakeholders and external suppliers of services to support Xplor in its performance of business activities globally.

The successful candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter with a proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as a member of a team.

The primary tasks, duties, and responsibilities are:

• Assist in managing all aspects of the legal function at Xplor.
• Serve as an integral member of Xplor’s Legal & Governance team and liaise between other departments, anticipating their requirements.
• Provide pragmatic but always legally sound guidance and maintain a culture of excellence to cross- functional stakeholders.
• Maintain relationships with external counsel and other strategic advisors.
• Provide appropriate legal support worldwide for all business areas including, in particular, Xplor’s Product, Technology and Global Operations teams.
• Provide appropriate legal support worldwide in the context of material projects, including:
  • new product initiatives and product development (e.g. new markets and functionality);
  • migration of customers between Xplor’s product offerings;
  • changes to Xplor’s existing technology infrastructure; and
  • changes to Xplor’s global operations capabilities.
• Take responsibility for substantive legal issues as required, including commercial, payments, privacy, intellectual property, regulatory, and consumer law.
• Identify opportunities to operationalise processes deriving from legal and regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with the Legal & Governance team leaders in monitoring and responding to relevant statutory, regulatory and policy changes; and maintaining Xplor’s Horizon Scanning Register.
• Reinforce culture of compliance with all relevant rules and regulations, including formulation of and compliance with internal policies, rules and procedures.

Qualifications

• Law qualification from a reputable institution; admitted as a solicitor/lawyer in a jurisdiction relevant to Xplor.
• Demonstrable legal negotiation and drafting experience either from within a reputable law firm or similar in-house role.
• Minimum of five years of post-qualification legal experience.
• Excellent commercial awareness and communication skills.
• Strong preference for broad legal experience including commercial, privacy/data protection, intellectual property, regulatory and consumer law.
• Strong preference for product-focused experience in one or more previous roles.
• Strong preference for experience in the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and payments sectors.
• Ability to “roll up your sleeves” and ensure effective operations; identify best practices in legal; anticipate forthcoming legal and regulatory change and apply to Xplor.
• Ability to work collaboratively and proactively in working with stakeholders of diverse backgrounds and skillsets.
• Strong alignment with Xplor’s culture and values and be comfortable in changing corporate environments.
• Committed to building a world-class legal organisation that supports Xplor’s efforts to achieve its goals.
• Position located in a jurisdiction relevant to Xplor.
• Willingness to travel and work across different time zones.
