If you are, come and join the Physical Play Invention team in Play Discovery (LEGO Creative Play Lab) to help us create new, great, innovative playing experiences. We are a multidisciplinary team of adventurous designers, makers, hackers and engineers. We have a thinking by making philosophy, bringing LEGO bricks to life with new play functions and playing experiences.

Core responsibilities

 

We are looking for:

 

  • Creative inventors with long-term vision that can conceive impactful physical play experiences that inspire new directions for future products across all LEGO® franchises. 
  • Curious inventors that are fascinated by early-stage observation, experimentation, bringing technology R&D together with creative concepts and user needs. 
  • Makers who can build next phase prototypes, lead and drive element phase together with engineering, including test molds and functional element test. 
  • The ability to translate ideas from workshops and play sessions to new playable prototypes for kids-test and gate meetings, turning insights into directional briefs.
  • Brave inventors that are comfortable working in unknown territories, enjoy challenging work, and take joy in exploring new and uncharted waters. 
  • Great at building LEGO sketch models and designing with 3D tools or handmade prototypes that can be evaluated and tested with kids.
  • Pioneers that can spot the magic to create never seen before play experiences for kids by developing world class tools, hacking sheds, magic time-machines; techniques for innovating, rapid prototyping and developing the future of physical play experiences across platforms.
  • Collaborators who can facilitate the innovation process from idea to shelf ready play opportunities, working with cross-functional teams electronics, prototyping, story and digital in Play Discovery, within Creative Play Lab (CPL) and external teams like engineering and M-phase design team
  • Inventors with a visual design process (Miro) that makes it easy for teams to follow.

Do you have what it takes? 

 

  • Launched at least 3+ play-centric products in the toy, games, entertainment design or related industries. 
  • Background in mechanical engineering and/or design with the ability to translate ideas to playable prototypes and making them realistic for LEGO production. 
  • Proficient at using 3D tools and ability to build your function into LEGO models.
  • Ability to facilitate idea sessions with cross-functional teams and understand/translate system in play for LEGO.
  • Proactive learning about consumer insights/kids’ tests and facilitate do-it-yourself test.
  • Skilled in graphics design, for labels and communication.
  • Proficient in Miro, visual design process.
  • Skilled in networking and communication, great at using video to document playing experiences.
  • Experience working with prototype equipment.
  • Experience operating electronics production machines (CNC milling, circuit printing) and 3D printing (FDM, photolithography). 
  • Ideal (desirable) additional skills: CAD modelling (Fusion, Rhino) and fabrication for prototyping milling, moulding and casting, 3D printing), and experience working with smart materials (piezoelectric, shape memory alloys, electroactive polymers).
