To accomplish this mission, Rondo is deploying low-cost, zero-carbon Rondo Heat Batteries to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and to significantly decarbonize industrial processes that are commonly thought of as "difficult-to-decarbonize". Our Heat Batteries charge from intermittent renewables to provide high temperature, continuous heat for customers safely, reliably, at an unprecedented 98% efficiency - and at a cost point that is lower than any other method.
We are looking for an experienced, innovative Industrial/Mechanical Procurement Engineer to join our team and repower industrial heat at scale. This role will require a deep fundamental understanding of high-temperature fluidic mechanics, familiarity with design and integration of complex high-temperature process equipment, and the capacity to work autonomously with both internal stakeholders and external vendors. Furthermore, this role will require familiarity and comfort in working in a fast-paced environment, comfort in working with uncertainty, assessing risk, and developing multi-disciplinary solutions in a collaborative team setting.

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to):

• Lead development and management of engineering vendor relationships through the full design lifecycle, including vendor selection, RFP and requirements dissemination, vendor design and engineering management, proposal review and approval, engineering solution selection, cost/schedule tracking, commissioning, and RMA
• Coordinate the design and integration of complex systems between the internal organization and external engineering vendors including requirement, risk, schedule, and cost tracking
• Convert product requirements into technical specifications, developing conceptual and detailed designs along with the necessary risk assessments 
• Perform engineering design, analysis, prototyping and/or testing required to achieve robust and cost-effective solutions for our core technology, as well as on tooling and other equipment to support manufacturing
• Operate in an inclusive, collaborative, and iterative design team, contributing to fostering an open engineering culture

What You Will Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent industry experience 
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in Mechanical Design Engineering, with a focus on high temperature industrial and process hardware
• 5+ years of vendor management experience, with several career examples of your ability to coordinate between internal and external engineering resources and manage vendor relationships through the full life-cycle of engineering programs 
• Experience working in one or more of the following: Steam/Superheated Gas Processing Systems, Furnace Systems, Fluid/Chemical Process Systems, Industrial Systems
• Expert Knowledge of Solid works and a familiarity with the full suite of AutoCAD tools (or a willingness to quickly learn)
• Demonstrated ability to lead, schedule, and track engineer teams consisting of internal resources, external consultants, and collaborative engineering with external parties.  
• Excellent communication skills; comfortable gathering, synthesizing, and disseminating program information among internal and external technical and non-technical parties
• Flexibility, openness, and creative problem-solving
• Comfort working with fast-based environments, with uncertainty, and in collaborative team settings

Bonus Points! 

• Familiarity with Structural Engineering, structural steel design, and design for high temperature structural elements 
• Familiarity with structural and thermal modelling techniques including FEA, heat transfer analysis, and stress cycling lifecycle estimation
• Familiarity with steam boilers and associated codes, controls, water treatment requirements, etc

The nature of this role necessitates that it be majority on-site at our Alameda headquarters. The estimated annual salary range for this role is $170,000 and $190,000 and it would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits listed above plus additional compensation in the form of equity. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels and experience.
