Role Description

As Senior Technical Designer at Humanoid, you will work closely with artists, designers, animators, and programmers to design, implement, and own the innovative, fun features and tools for our flagship title. Initially you will work with other team members to design and implement prototypes, moving on to develop multiple gameplay and mission features at final quality. This role involves close collaboration with other disciplines to shape the vision of the project, as you integrate features with other facets of the game and iterate towards a cohesive overall experience.
Focus for this role will be defining and iterating on optimized modular features within Unreal 5. An emphasis on building efficient tools, workflows, and assets that align to the project vision are crucial. In production, you will work closely with the team to ensure that experiences can be created to the highest standards while also supporting larger design initiatives such as optimization, tools, and workflow improvements.

Responsibilities 

• Design, implement, and own features related to modular gameplay and mission component creation
• Utilize creative, scripting and technical skills to add new features to existing systems
• Champion and implement efficient and effective tools and workflows for other developers
• Contribute to amazing and fun gameplay experiences that support the narrative and the themes of the IP through collaboration with the broader team
• Define, document, and share best practices related to the creation and usage of gameplay features and assets
• Actively mentor creative and technical abilities of team members
• Champion efficiency and optimization in all aspects of development 
• Participate in game design discussions and contribute valuable ideas and feedback to all aspects of the project
• Support the team through collaboration with various other design, art, programming, audio, animation, and UX developers 
• Partner with both internal and external partner teams within an agile framework
• Remain current with new and innovative technologies, proactively incorporating and improving pipelines and processes
   

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience as a Senior Technical Designer in professional game development shipping multiple AAA titles

• An expert level of experience in Unreal 4/5 and Blueprints
• Experience with coding languages such as C++ is preferred
• Experience with asset inheritance & modular workflows
• A strong understanding and focus on player experience and accessibility
• Familiarity with gameplay mechanics in action/adventure/RPG titles
• The ability to explicitly define and communicate solutions to complex gameplay, workflow, and technical problems
• Self-motivated, with proactive communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with team members of all development disciplines and identify areas to jump in and help where needed.
• A passion for utilizing gameplay to build incredible memorable experiences

Base Salary Range:  

• $107,000 - 155,000 CAD
