In this role you will be part of the Project Rene team building out the next generation game and creative platform. Project Rene is a Mobile + HD cross-platform that allows players to play The Sims alone or with friends, without barriers, for the first time ever. Explore the dramatic lives of your Sims in the most accessible, dynamic Simulation to date. Players can create characters, customize furniture, design apartments, and more using accessible tools. You will be reporting to the Development Director.
Location: Remote North America - open to most North America locations
As a Senior Experience Designer with Maxis, you will partner with XD Director, Game Director and Creative Director to inform overall product vision through holistic vision for game tool experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Design accessible creation tools that allow developers and players to easily create a variety of content or gameplay experiences, capture experiences (such as screen captures or video) and share that content with others.
- Oversee the UX of all tools the team uses to manipulate large datasets and connect assets to gameplay functionality that will be used by players. For example: state machine editor, behavior tree editor, expression editor.
- Set the foundations for all developer-facing editors, inclusive of exploring tools for possible 3rd party use.
- Create detailed UX artifacts appropriate to the problem to solve (Personas, user flow, journey maps, task analysis, wireframes, prototypes, and design specifications).
- Establish user-centered design methodologies & process within the tools team
- Be a promoter of usability, inclusiveness, and accessibility.
- Partner with UXR to plan, roadmap, and conduct user tests, task analysis, and heuristic evaluation.
- Create a design language and system for tools, and maintain documentation for software requirements.
- Guide design and prioritization discussions as you collaborate with Engineers and all other disciplines across the dev team
Qualifications:
- Minimum 6 years experience as a UX designer, interaction designer, game designer, product designer or similar role working on some combination of: creative tools, game tools or released game products
- You have experience designing intuitive consumer-facing content creation tools
- You have experience with game editors, 3D tools or workflows in a design role
- Can collaborate with other designers, researchers, artists and engineers to ensure delivery of a quality user experience
- Work with complex workflows and large datasets to distill them into user journeys, task flow, and interactive visualization.
- Proficiency in contemporary UX and interaction design tools such as Figma
- A portfolio with work samples demonstrating user-centered designs across a range of digital products.
Qualifications (Desired):
- Passion for playing and making games, with an understanding of what makes them fun and engaging.
- Experience working on a cross-platform game, multiplayer, or social product.
- Background in HCI, Psychology, cognitive science or equivalent fields.
- Familiarity with The Sims 4, The Sims franchise or the life simulation game genre.
- Experience implementing UI/UX designs in AAA, indie, or modding games in Unreal Engine.
- Experience with AI or machine learning integrated into developer tools workflow.

US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.
EA has listed the base salary ranges it in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in the locations listed, as of the time of this posting. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
BASE SALARY RANGES• California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):
º $113,300 - $171,700• New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
º $111,500 - $171,700• Jersey City, NJ:
º $126,700 - $171,700• Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):
º $111,500 - $144,000• Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
º $111,500 - $157,300
Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
