What we do:
The Propulsion & Dynamic Systems team is responsible for the design, integration, qualification, and certification of the electric motor, motor control electronics, drive systems, thermal systems, and rotor systems. The Sr. Motor Control SW/FW Engineer will work closely with Motor Control and Flight Controls Engineers to develop and implement software and/or firmware necessary to operate the electric motor. We are looking for a self-starter and highly motivated engineer with a thirst for learning.
This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.
What you can do:
- Lead design, development, and implementation of basic software for control of electric motors in accordance with DO-178B
- Create unit tests, integration tests, and system-level tests to ensure firmware functionality and coverage of the requirements
- Lead test and verification of software using Software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and dyno testing
- Lead integration of the inverter with the controller(s) to support testing and also integration with the aircraft
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to suppliers and the Supernal software team for the software development process
- Collaborate with suppliers/partners on technical development topics to ensure program milestones are achieved
- Participate in system safety evaluations
- Participate in the development of software plans, processes, and guidelines
- Partner with PMO organization to implement build plan
- Up to 10% of domestic and international travel
- Other duties as assignedÂ
What you can contribute:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science required; Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in developing firmware for embedded systems, ideally in the aerospace industry (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
- Proficiency with embedded firmware development in C/C++
- Strong understanding of motor control theory and algorithms for AC motors
- Experience with pulse width modulation (PWM) schemes, including SPWM and SVPWM
- Experience with developing and maintaining DBC files and working with CANalyzer, CANape, and CANoe
- Experience with communication protocols such as A429, A825 CAN, and RS485
- Experience working with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems and code generation
- Proficient with modeling, simulation, and validation using Matlab/Simulink
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
- Â Proficiency with Excel VLOOKUP, pivot tables, MS Office Suite
You may also be able to contribute:
- Hands-on prototyping experience preferred
- Advanced knowledge of electric powertrain components, including AC/DC converters, battery chargers, inverters, EMI filters, and high-voltage power distribution preferred
- Advanced understanding of electrical engineering protocols and standards preferred
- Experience with 500-1200 VDC systems preferred
- Experience working in the aviation industry preferred
- Experience working with regulatory agencies preferred
- Familiarity with aviation standards such as RTCA DO-178C, DO-254A; and SAE ARP4761 and ARP4754 preferred

Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.
The pay range for this position is:
$166,400—$232,960 USD
