The Invoice Cloud Engineering team owns the overall architecture, innovation, development, data, site reliability, security, availability of our industry-leading SaaS customer engagement, e-billing, and payment platform used by thousands of businesses and millions of customers. With its market-leading solutions, partnership model and vertical focus, Invoice Cloud is scaling rapidly. To realize this journey and future growth, Invoice Cloud is seeking a Senior Vice President (SVP) to lead and scale the product engineering organization.  As the Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in driving ongoing transformation to build a world-class engineering capability. This position reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer. This role will be accountable for the leadership and performance of all software engineering activities that drive the product and B2B integrations platform.

The SVP will work closely and partner with other pillars in Engineering organization - Enterprise Architecture, Reliability Engineering and Platform Engineering. The SVP will also serve as a critical partner to the SVP of Product and assist in formulating product strategies and roadmaps that delight customers, further differentiate the platform, and generate high revenue growth and low churn. The SVP will play a key role in nurturing an enterprise-wide culture of technology innovation.   

The SVP will enhance a solid industry-leading SaaS platform to deliver product innovation while ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.  The SVP will manage a team of leaders who will lead 70+ team members across the United States and offshore partners.  They will be accountable for mentoring and coaching this expanding team, ensuring it is well prepared for these next phases of growth. This is a unique opportunity to own, build and lead a team during a high-growth phase, while ensuring that Invoice Cloud is continuously driving product innovation without compromising quality, security, and stability.

Who we seek:

  • A proven technology thought leader with a track record of successfully scaling software engineering teams. Minimum of ten years demonstrating outstanding leadership and management abilities.
  • Has navigated the challenges of transitioning organizations from startup to scale, gaining firsthand insights into real-world challenges.
  • Prior experience working with PE or VC-backed organization during a high-growth phase.
  • A high-energy results-oriented leader with strong engineering, operations, communications, and change management skills.
  • Real-world experience in building enterprise scale SaaS products and platforms, serving thousands of customers.
  • Started as a software engineer and progressed through leadership roles, evolving from Manager to VP
  • Possesses hands-on architecture experience with demonstrated strategies in transforming legacy monolith architectures to scalable micro front-end and services architecture patterns.
  • Thorough and current understanding of cloud technologies and frameworks. Microsoft Azure cloud and Microsoft technology stack preferred.
  • Experience working in highly regulated, security-focused environments (familiar with setting up controls and processes around HIPAA, HiTrust, PCI, SOC 2 or similar frameworks)
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding and application of lean-agile concepts in streamlining and scaling software delivery operations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to cultivate a culture and behaviors that yield high-performance teams, dispersed across the United States and offshore locations.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in modeling and designing organizational structures using multiple approaches.
  • Clearly articulates the transformation goals and aligns them with the overarching stakeholder goals.
  • Serves as a hands-on coach and mentor, promoting consistent engineering practices and fostering accountability for overall product quality, site reliability, and security.
  • Possesses a deep understanding of payments products.
  • Understands and drives product innovation by validating customer needs.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage overall portfolio, spanning innovation and running the business activities.
  • Efficient at stakeholder management, ensuring clear communication and alignment with overall stakeholder goals.
  • A good balance between idealism and pragmatism.

First 90 days

  • Develop an understanding of the current business model, major initiatives, and key stakeholders.
  • Develop an understanding of the current software, data & cloud architectures.
  • Develop and understanding of the current software, testing, DevSecOps processes, and tools.
  • Become familiar with key systems, service management and operational processes.
  • Socialize areas of improvement observed during the onboarding & training period.

The SVP Engineering role will have a broad set of responsibilities including the following:

  • Leadership and Strategy:
    • Provide visionary leadership and strategy for scaling software engineering teams effectively.
    • Apply insights gained from transitioning organizations from startup to scale to navigate real-world challenges.
    • Clearly articulate and communicate the goals of ongoing transformations, aligning them with broader stakeholder objectives.
  • Career Growth and Expertise:
    • Guide the career growth of the engineering team, leveraging personal experience as a software engineer who advanced to VP.
    • Actively coach and mentor team members, driving strong and repeatable engineering practices.
    • Collaborate with the Architecture team to implement strategies for transforming legacy monolith architectures into scalable micro front-end and services architecture patterns.
  • Cultural Leadership:
    • Foster a culture that encourages high-performance teams and behaviors conducive to innovation.
    • Implement and champion lean-agile concepts to streamline and scale software delivery operations.
  • Organizational Efficiency:
    • Demonstrate versatility in modeling and designing organizational structures to support growth and objectives.
    • Efficiently lead Director-level leaders, providing guidance and direction to ensure cohesive team management.
    • Drive data-driven approaches to enhance engineering team productivity.
  • Product Development:
    • Leverage real-world experience to lead the development of SaaS products and platforms, ensuring they meet the needs of thousands of customers.
    • Apply a deep understanding of payments products to inform technology decisions and advancements.
    • Instill a strong sense of accountability for the overall quality, security, and site reliability of the products.
  • Portfolio & Stakeholder Management:
    • Articulate and negotiate a well-balanced approach to the overall portfolio, covering innovation, feature enhancement, security, compliance, reliability, and scalability of the platform.
    • Effectively manage stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment with overall stakeholder goals.
