UTILITIES SYSTEM REPAIR OPERATOR

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

A 40-hour work week is typical for this position.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires "analysis by ear'', close attention of eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors, considerable walking and standing on hard surfaces, and pushing, pulling, and lifting of material weighing up to 40 pounds. Incumbent must be able to climb vertical ladders; must have peripheral vision that will enable the incumbent to avoid falls; must have sufficient hearing to hear verbal commands over surrounding noise of equipment. No reaching above shoulder more than 2 hours per day. Shift work required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is done indoors 95% of the time. Work area is an industrial climate controlled room. Personnel protective equipment is required for this position including hard hat, safety shoes, gloves, eye protection and occasional dust mask. Drives government vehicle to out buildings to check standalone boilers and auxiliary equipment. The main hazards are burns from high pressure and high temperature steam, injury from accidental contact with moving equipment, electrical shocks from electrical equipment and wiring, and injury or death from major explosions from turbine or boilers in adjacent bay. Shift work is required.
