The role of a UX Designer at Canonical
Our design team is on a mission to turn complex open-source software into efficient intuitive products that can change how complex systems are built and what open source is capable of the face of enterprise IT. We are looking for an exceptional user experience designer who shares our passion.
Our mission is to make enterprise-grade open source software applications and services available to people everywhere. This role sits in the design team reporting to one of the Infrastructure and Developer Experience UX design managers.
Location: This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region.
The role entails
As a UX Designer for Infrastructure and Developer Experience you will work with the exceptional engineering teams at Canonical and have a vital role in improving what we deliver to the success of Ubuntu our partners customers and the larger Ubuntu community. We build tools that enable everyone to build their own cloud experiences (MAAS LXD MicroCloud and Canonical k8s) and we put together the Developer Experience on your Ubuntu Desktop. Your job is to make sure we implement industry best practices and push the limits of what is possible.
Clear stylish presentation that aids the user experience of our products is how we raise the bar and reach the widest audience. Real content and information will be at the core of the designs you produce. You know the ins and outs of design and UX heuristics and you care deeply about usability accessibility and web standards. You should have agency company or freelance design experience.

Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university

Bachelorโs or equivalent in User Experience Design or STEM or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path

Knowledge and passion for user experience technology and design

Engagement with the latest design research and innovation

Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
UX designers should be excellent communicators who are at ease working with a complex mix of engineers designers and executives. They represent us at cross-functional company meetings and must present their design position with clarity and precision. They should be confident and excited to take on complex design challenges. They should also be able to connect their design leadership to the strategic vision of the company.
