Carilion Clinic Department of Anesthesia and Virginia Tech Carilion
(VTC) School of Medicine is accepting applications for Residency Program Director to lead in the
development of a new Anesthesia Residency Program targeted to begin Summer 2026. This 4-year program
will start with a broad focus on education in the fundamental clinical skills of medicine relevant
to Anesthesiology followed by CA-1 through CA-3.
The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic
and innovative medical educator with authority and accountability for the building and operation of
an ACGME residency program, including compliance with all applicable program requirements.
The
position includes an academic appointment at Virginia Tech in the tenure track at the rank of
Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Professor based on the qualifications and experience of the
successful candidate. Clinical responsibilities include patient care in the Anesthesia Department at
Carilion Medical Center (CMC), an 835-bed tertiary academic health center. CMC is one of the largest
and busiest Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma centers in the region with 49 anesthetizing locations
and NORA rooms. Our faculty fosters robust academic programming while keeping foremost Carilion
Clinic's mission of providing excellent care to its community. Research interest with Fralin
Biomedical Research Institute-VT is supported.
The Program Director will have 60% clinical time and
40% administrative time dedicated to the management of the
program.

Requirements?
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree
from an accredited institution
Completion of an ACGME-accredited Anesthesiology Residency
ABA board
certified, current medical licensure, ongoing clinical activity
Experience must include specialty
expertise and at least 3 years of documented educational and/or administrative experience, or
qualifications acceptable to the review committee with at least 3 years post residency
completion
Must demonstrate ongoing academic achievements in Anesthesiology, including publications,
the development of educational programs, or the conduct of research
