Communications Coordinator
Benefits Data Trust (BDT) seeks an energetic, compassionate individual who wants to use their writing, public relations, and organizational skills to positively affect the lives of others. The Communications Coordinator will support the Communications and Marketing Team in its efforts to drive greater awareness of BDT’s work to improve the public benefits system and help people live healthier, more independent lives. This position will support media and public relations activities, produce various written content, conduct research, track metrics and impact, and assist with the team’s goals and long-term initiatives.
The Coordinator will be part of a highly visible team that collaborates with colleagues across the organization at all levels to demonstrate BDT’s impact and positions on key policies and practices. The Communications Coordinator will report to the Associate Director of Communications & Public Relations. BDT is a remote-first organization. Employees may work remotely or from BDT’s Philadelphia office. While we prefer candidates from the Philadelphia area, we are open to candidates from elsewhere.
Responsibilities:
• Support all aspects of media relations, including identifying, researching, and monitoring media outlets, producers, editors, and reporters to support press opportunities; drafting press releases and interview prep materials; compiling weekly roundups of relevant news articles; and using a media monitoring tool to manage and compile reports of BDT media mentions
• Serve as the point person for managing BDT’s client story bank
• Support the team with social media copy as needed
• Manage the internal process for sharing new content (e.g., reports, blog posts, media coverage, etc.) with BDT teams and supporting them in distributing it to their contacts and professional networks
• Monitor the dates, deadlines, and details of upcoming conferences, speaking opportunities, and award programs, and communicate this information to the appropriate BDT teams
• Maintain the team’s calendar of external communications opportunities to help track, coordinate, and plan new announcements and campaigns
• Provide proofreading and fact-checking assistance for all communications, including e-newsletters, web copy, press materials, fact sheets, and blog posts
• Upload blog posts, press releases, and news coverage to BDT’s website
• Serve as the team’s point of contact for other BDT teams, manage requests for communications support, and track the team’s progress and impact
Requirements:
• 1-3 years of experience in a professional work environment that included responsibilities in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, writing, or relevant administrative or operations experience
• Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to draft and edit a wide variety of materials for different stakeholders
• Interest in news media, familiarity with a variety of news outlets, and ability to identify news trends and story ideas
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, managing urgent requests alongside longer-term projects
• Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
• Strong problem-solving, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including PowerPoint and Excel
• Knowledge of AP Style
• Experience using a media monitoring tool is a plus
The salary range starts at $50,000 and is commensurate with relevant experience.
