Virtual and augmented reality are transforming design and creation through new immersive and collaborative experiences that will impact how major segments like entertainment, architecture, engineering, construction, and manufacturing converge. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be part of the exciting AR/VR/MR (XR) team responsible for building and delivering XR workflows to the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry (AEC). This multi-disciplinary team is operating in a start-up mode within Autodesk with autonomy on product of course, but also sales, strategy, marketing, and operations. In this role, you will manage a team of talented engineers and work with internal and external partners to deliver the cloud stack that and enables our XR workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, inspire, and mentor a fully remote team of 6-8 full-stack engineers, QA, DevOps, and SRE.
  • Collaborate with fellow managers to establish our organizational culture and professional development paths.
  • Identify and validate opportunities for improvement and obstacle removal through communication, collaboration, documentation, process, and automation.
  • Champion quality, security, resiliency and other best practices at the product and team levels.
  • Stay up to date with Autodesk initiatives, industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to cloud computing and XR, share the knowledge, and make recommendations to the team and leadership.
  • Ensure the team has access to the right technologies to do their work and develop product features, this includes working with internal partners like legal, product, and service teams, and external technology partners.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders of different disciplines to establish the technical requirements and plan the delivery of the cloud stack for our XR workflows.
  • Highlight the team accomplishments and advocate for their needs to upper management and adjacent teams.
  • Establish and execute hiring plans for full-time and contingent engineers to adapt to product and team needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in full-stack development (backend and frontend) of delivered products, with 5+ years of hands-on development, and 3+ years as a manager or tech lead
  • Experience identifying, recruiting, and developing technical talent
  • Experience coaching and mentoring high performance teams
  • Experience in adopting and improving engineering best practices
  • Deep understanding, and extensive experience with full stack models, services, and cloud deployment
  • Extensive experience in either Go or Node.js
  • Extensive experience with AWS services like EC2, Lambda and S3
  • Experience with Databases (SQL or noSQL)
  • Experience with Jenkins, Travis, or other CI/CD system
  • Experience delivering software in an agile development environment
  • Ability to work in a start-up fashion even within a big company (things will move fast)
  • Proactive decision maker with excellent communication and written skills
  • BS Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or similar technical field

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or similar technical field
  • Experience with real-time communication using technologies like WebSockets
  • Experience with React.js or Next.js
  • Experience with HTML5 and CSS
  • Interest in AR, VR and MR

Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $139,100 and $225,060. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
