Our group is searching for a dynamic Device Development Engineer to be responsible for developing innovative drug delivery devices designed for Genentech’s next-generation drug pipeline.

Using innovative technology, the successful candidate will work on the development of combination products to enable clinical and commercial production in our network worldwide - in collaboration with Genentech's scientific, quality and manufacturing organizations. They will be working on the creation of groundbreaking drug delivery devices, often in collaboration with our development partners worldwide, creating solutions to meet the highest standards for quality and reliability.

It is expected that the candidate will work in projects on mechanical and electro-mechanical system design.

The Opportunity

  • The candidate will work to ensure that device design, component selection, manufacturability and test methods meet product needs. This person will contribute significantly to design controls documents, test plans and test execution. 

  • They will develop original design, create CAD models, perform tolerance, functional and stress analysis on parts, mechanisms and entire systems. 

  • Execute the mechanical/electro-mechanical system, subsystem and part design of medical products from requirement specification up to transfer to manufacturing including fabrication, testing, verification and validation of engineering prototypes;

  • Write and execute protocols and reports, including integrating the use of statistical tools in validation protocols.

  • Link manufacturability, Statistical Process Control and design to Risk Analysis and Design Input Requirements. 

  • Analyze and extract insight from complex body of data.

  • Work in multi-functional teams with Engineering, Sourcing, Quality and Operations.

Who You Are

  • You have a BSME (or equivalent) with 3+ years of experience in development and design of medical devices (combination products a plus).

  • You have experience with mechanism design, analysis and theoretic modeling of mechanical and/or electro mechanical systems, linear movement, closed loop control. 

  • You have excellent technical writing skills in order to draft, review and/or approve design control documents (i.e. DHF documents) to support device development deliverables such as protocols and reports for design verification, failure modes effects and analysis, risk management plans, change management plans and design review meeting minutes.

  • You have experience with part design in high volume manufacturing technologies like plastics injection molding. 

  • You also have experience with DFx, manufacturing, assembly, test, reliability and cost

  • You havce previous experience with tolerance and other types of worst case analysis

  • You possess experience with 3D CAD modelling, experience with Solidworks is a plus

  • You have experience with FEA for advanced structural, kinematics, thermal analysis using Pro/MECHANICA, ABAQUS or ANSYS is a plus

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $80,100 - $148,700. Annual Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
