What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Lead a team of Mechanics, Technicians and Vehicle Facilitators
  • Oversee the daily operations of the garage, ensuring that all activities are conducted in compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Manage the financial allocation and budgeting for vehicles, tools and equipment needed for testing and validation activities including scheduling, resources and workflow optimization
  • Evaluate and approve expenditures related to tools, equipment and materials while keeping accurate financial records for reporting needs
  • Coordinate the schedule of maintenance activities of Scout owned benchmark fleet including prioritization of workload from all external customers within R&D
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers and other department to ensure smooth communication and execution of V&V and R&D activities
  • Oversee the setup, execution and teardown of test vehicles including instrumentation and industry measurement equipment including, thermocouples, data loggers, etc.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving technical/mechanical issues that arise during preparation, testing or validation
  • Maintain responsibility of the maintenance, calibration and repair of garage tools, equipment and vehicles to ensure they are in optimal working condition
  • Manage the inventory of materials and consumables required for the workshop’s operations
  • Maintain detailed records of all tests, maintenance activities and incidents ensuring traceability and compliance with industry standards
  • Communicate progress, challenges and results to management and key stakeholders
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration across teams

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, MI. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology (or a related field) or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience working in or managing an automotive workshop, preferably within an R&D or Verification and Validation context
  • Strong leadership skills and proven experience managing a team of technicians, mechanics, or engineers, including task delegation, performance management, and training
  • In-depth understanding of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions, electronics, and chassis components.
  • Familiarity with automotive industry standards, environmental regulations, compliance requirements and best practices, such as ISO, SAE, and other relevant frameworks
  • Understanding of workplace safety standards and experience in enforcing safety protocols within a garage or workshop setting
  • Familiarity with the tools and diagnostic equipment used in an automotive R&D environment, including data acquisition systems, calibration tools, and specialized testing rigs
  • Experience coordinating testing or validation projects, including planning, execution, and reporting
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills as well as attention to detail regarding testing and validation procedures, diagnosing complex technical issues, resolving challenges, and documentation within the garage shop environment
  • Knowledge of emerging automotive technologies, including electric and autonomous vehicles, advanced driver-assistance systems and other innovative trends in the industry
  • Relevant certifications such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) or other industry-recognized qualifications preferred.
  • The role may require physical activity, such as lifting heavy tools or components, standing for extended periods, and working in various workshop conditions. Good manual dexterity may also be important for handling tools, equipment, and other precision tasks.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $130,000-$150,000

Internal leveling code: M8
