Sr. Software Engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer joining our fast-growing Engineering team, you will have exposure to influence the vision and implementation of architecture, design and features for Velocity’s Global Work Platform. You own module/library development and work to troubleshoot and diagnose problems at the module level, working to resolve ambiguity in a nimble team. You participate in mentoring junior engineers and champion and model best practices in design, testing, and operations. As we continue to substantially scale our world-class platform built on AWS to delight customers and help our operations partners, progress in migrating from monolithic to microservices architecture, and collaborate in defining and solving diverse technical challenges of a PaaS model solution, you will solve compelling technical problems that move the needle.  

You will report to the Software Engineering Manager.

You will be based onsite in our Palo Alto, CA office.

You Will:

• Help to build our technical vision and roadmap that align development projects with company and team goals
• Participate in all product development activities from brainstorming to delivery
• Collaborate with team members to break big problems into smaller ones and iterate for success
• Participate in software delivery by improving the development process, creating a predictable software delivery machine
• Provide training and mentorship, developing the skills and talents of others
• Help to attract top-notch talent to join our existing team of experienced engineers
• Keep it as simple as possible and no simpler
• Manage a module/library. Troubleshoot and diagnose module-level problems Independent development, from design, testing, and operations

You Have:

• 5+ years of experience developing commercial software 
• Solid Back-End Capabilities:
  • Experience with modern API frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Java, Node.JS, Python, and a solid foundation in REST best practices. 
  • Understanding of modern authorization mechanisms, such as JSON Web Token.
  • A good sense for separation of concerns when integrating back-end and front-end functionality
• Front-End Foundations:
  • JavaScript experience and in-depth knowledge of at least one modern frontend framework such as React or Angular.
  • Experience frontend tools such as GraphQL, Websockets, Webpack, React Hooks, Jest, RxJS, Redux, and Flux.
  • Familiarity with React Native and general mobile development best practices.
• Expertise in CSS and HTML to implement pixel-perfect UIs that match designs.
• A history of implementing clean, modern, smooth animations and transitions that provide an award-winning user experience
